Hola families and friends,

photo (1)Today was our first full day on the GG agenda. We had a delicious breakfast at Buffett Esteli of gallo pinto, scrambled eggs, and tortilla.  Then Fran, Humberto, and Javier (our in country coordinators) performed a rap entitled “Don’t touch the dogs.” It really helped us to loosen up and prepare for our own presentations on how to be savvy travelers.

We had another delicious meal and headed out for a tour of Esteli.  In this beautiful city, murals are a way of representing daily life, history, and much more.  We all made mental lists of places we really want to visit on our free days.  Crystal is hoping to try donuts, Clara wants to go to the frozen yogurt place, and we all want to get smoothies and shop for souvenirs.

photo 4After a history academic seminar, we went to the museum and met Don Braulio, who taught us a lot about the history of Esteli. We saw some petroglyphs, a mammoth bone, various funerary vessels, and many pictures of past and present leaders and cultural figures.  The petroglyph in the group picture depicts El Brujito, who many artists represent in paintings, sculptures, and other work.

Tonight we had Chinese food at Buffett Esteli including soursop fruit juice. Then we were serenaded by Lissandro, who played folk songs and some of his original music.  For many of the students, the singing and guitar music was the highlight of the day.

Please give us some tidings of the epic sports matches happening at home. Leeza especially would love to hear how the Golden State Warriors are doing.  I would love Stanley Cup highlights.
