Hello California, Hello Family and friends. Today Jonathan and I woke up at 5:55am. We volunteered first to be leaders of the day (Liders del Dia). Because of this we had to wake up an hour before everyone else at 5:55am. Then at 7:00am we started to wake up glimpsers with hard banging on the door. Some said that we scared them with our wake up call. We also did this count off thing to check that every person was together. To get everyone’s attention we came up with a saying. Our saying was “Ai, dios mio!”(Oh my god!). This definitely worked. Our breakfast was just, cereal. Nothing special. Then we went to the El Barrios Flores (The Neighborhood of Flowers). This is one of the poorest neighborhoods in Constanza and with the aid of our Peace Corps friend, Scott Capps, we got a tour of the neighborhood. After that we had lunch. Lunch was delicious! It was the best lunch we had had so far. We had rice with pinto beans in it, a nice creamy type of pasta (macaroni salad) with meatballs on the side. Then we went to CECAINI which is an elementary school that we are going to do our CAP (Community Action Project) project at. We interviewed the staff on what they want us to do, to help them. We also got to play with the kids there, some played basketball others played other kiddie games. After that we went back to our hotel and prepped for our English tutoring classes. Our classes were really fun, it seemed like everyone got into the groove of it today. After this we had dinner and started our nightly meeting where we passed the torch (The leader of the day cape) and reflected on the day. Well to end it off we our having a wonderful time here at Constanza and I’ll see you soon!!!!!

Ay dios mio, el blog de Liam y Jonathan era comico! Sigue mas por favor!
Takes lots of guts to be the first leader of the day, hats off to you guys. I’m sure you guys did great and I encourage future leaders of the day to take note of what each leader of the day does that is effective so that you may follow.
Thank you for the wonderful update.
Navya, enjoy your experiences. Can’t wait to hear all about it.
Luv you. Mom , dad , nidhi.
Vivienne you should know Ay dios mio. That’s also Tagalog. Your Lolo and your grandmother say it a lot. Especially your Lolo. Jacqui is thinking of taking Tagalog next year. So cool!
PS I recorded the Warriors victory parade for you to watch when you come back. We were in LA and couldn’t go. There were way too many people there anyways. Lol.
Thanks Liam and Jonathan for such a descriptive and insightful narrative. I feel like I know what you both were experiencing – I especially like the part about the local cuisine!
Liam – we all miss you but are grateful you’re having such a memorable and milestone adventure!
Ai, dios mio! It sounds like you’re having a wonderful adventure… and doing public service too. It makes me very proud of you, Liam, also Athena and others who I haven’t even met. We miss you, but are very happy that you have this opportunity to glimpse another part of the globe. I’m sure it will be one of the favorite memories of your youth. We look forward to hearing about more of your adventures. You’re very lucky!
For Vivienne:
Hope that you are having a fun time in Constanza! Just wanted to update you that I moved out of UCLA already and we’re celebrating Lolo’s birthday today (June 16) with the Johnson family.
Betting you showed off your basketball skills with the kids! Lol. To update all the basketball fans on the trip, the Warriors won the Cavs 129-120. They just had the parade the other day and 2 million people showed up.
Anyways, have a great rest of your trip! We love you and miss you much!
navya: hi, how are you doing? you have to eat well, take care of yourself, and we will see you soon! miss you! -alyssa’s mom (alyssa typed this)
hi navs seems like youre doing cool things cant wait to hear all the stories !! -alyssa
Liam,
Que maravilloso! You are having a great adventure and helping others, too. Granny and I look forward to your return to learn all the details. I’m glad you like beans and rice and will still like them when you return. In Costa Rica when I visited, we had two varieties at least twice per day . . . “arroz y frijoles” and “frijoles y arroz.” 🙂
Another busy day for you all. Way to go Liam and Jonathan!
Alesia, the Warriors did have a victory parade on Thursday and of course, Darrell invited Alex to go. So horrible me “accidentally” scheduled Alex’s dental appointment that morning! I will never hear the end of it…
I hope you are all learning a lot from one another and having a great time!
Don’t forget to take plenty of pictures to share when you come back home!
Hey bell how are you doing miss you dad by the way when is your return date I forget

Hi erl enjoyed every single day there and always pray always
Hi Alex and all you Global Glimpser’s! This is an awesome opportunity for all of you to see and experience life in a place that is so different from the Bay Area. Enjoy your time in the DR, Have Fun and don’t forget the mosquito repellant. Also, I love reading about your daily escapades; it is great that you are starting to get into the groove of things so soon.
Alex, Vincent starts his new job on Monday.
Bella,
Hope you are having a good time. MISS YOU SO MUCH, MIJITA. Prosseco and I have made up ( I promissed not to run away every time I see her since she scratched me up a few days ago) and she has been hanging with me since you are gone. I wish you were here so you could help out at my school with their cooking class. I bet you would be great with the middle schoolers. Don’t forget to bring back information on teaching in the DR. I am very curious about what school looks like for the teachers and students there. Perhaps I can use your experiences, thoughts and ideas in my own classroom.
Besos y abrazos
This is for Corina: Cori we miss you I hope your having the time of your life !!!we have spent days looking for you in a picture well actually my dad lol. Love you
Wow, I can’t believe you woke up before 6am! Proud of you for getting a head-start on the day 🙂 It sounds like you’re not only having a great time and making new friends, but also experiencing new things in a new place, making amazing memories. I LOVE AND MISS YOU <3 Home isn't quite as vibrant without you here.
Great job glimpser. I would really like to know what Jonathon chose as his talent. Did he rap? I hope not. Maybe somebody broke his ankles on the basket ball court. I need to know. J/k. Hope you all have a great time. Make the most. It will all be over soon. See you soon Rene!
Natural born leaders! So proud of you guys!
This sounds like so much fun Liam Bo! Happy birthday! We’ll celebrate when you get back. The gang loves you and misses you and I’m very proud of you. Catch you on the flip.
