Good morning all of our fantastic Glimpsers, family and friends.

The butterflies in our stomachs keep flitting and flatting faster and faster, it’s almost time for you all to be amongst us in this wonderful city we both call home.  We (Henrietta, a Brit from London, and Beverly, a Nica from Bluefields) will be your guides, your apoyo and much more over the coming months, and the journey for us isn’t just beginning. We have been arduously preparing for your arrival by meeting all the many fantastic organizations working in and around Esteli, the passionate and knowledgeable people ready to share experiences and words, and the families waiting with open arms to exchange ideas and cultures.

Esteli - The city of murals

Esteli – The city of murals

For 2 and a half weeks Nicaragua the land of lakes and volcanoes will be your home, it might be a little different from what you are used to, but it will also be full of magical surprises and a hub for learning. Esteli , a city nestled in the Northen region of the country, is a dynamic city known for archaeological monuments and hard-working artisans. Not only is it a commercial hub, surrounded by tobacco fields but it is surrounded by natural areas such as woods, cloud forest reserves and waterfalls. Besides this beautiful setting Esteli has a unique political history, many of the memories from fighting that occurred here during the revolution of the 80’s with the uprising against the Somoza dictatorship, (don’t worry, these words will become very familiar during politics and history day !) can be found in the city’s walls in the form of murals.

The journey in which you are all about to embark on will encompass all that Esteli has to offer, it’s people and its history, moreover, this journey is also one of discovery and growth. It is a chance for you all to become global active citizens to share your own passions and beliefs, and to develop skills and ideas that you never dreamed possible.

As you all prepare for this voyage of discovery we ask you to think about the following quote,

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”  Mark Twain

We absolutely cannot wait to explore, dream and discover with you all here in Esteli, Nicaragua. If you need any support leading up to your departure please do not hesitate to contact your fantastic GGL’s (Global Glimpse Leaders) or one of us,[email protected].

See you soon,

Big Love,

Henrietta and Beverly

P.s. We love cycling around the city, humming the mockingjay song – Welcome to District Esteli! , rapelling off the side of mountains, hiking and yoga , munching on frozen yoghurt whilst Beverly declares her love for Sam Smith, and latin music, Henrietta gets her groove on at a local aerobic/dance class.
