My name is Alicia Vazquez and today was my day to be a leader. The theme of today was Working like a Local. I didn’t have a reason why I signed up for this day because all days were very interesting. The Question of the Day is Do you think people are compensated for their work according to the value they add to society? Should they be? The answer to this question varies. It depends on where you are talking about. It could be the Dominican Republic, the US or the whole world. For example if the CEO is earning a lot more money more than any other employee of the company, I think that it is really unfair. Today we woke up at 4am and got ready to go to a local super market at 5am to help set up and sell fruits, vegetables and some prepared to sell chicken. Preparing the chicken for people from what I’ve heard was that it was very dirty, smelly and nasty. I was working on vegetables but it still took a lot of courage to gather all the vegetables, throw away all the bad ones and place them in a certain way to show the customers along with getting what the customers wanted. Another activity we did today was that we had our CAP seminar part 2 where we talked about what and how we were going to help the two places we visited and make it a better place for the community.  The first group from what I heard wanted to make a play structure for the kids to play on. The second group wanted to clean up the backyard and make not only a play area but a garden as well. We wanted to teach them that they can help the community and plant plants to make the area more welcome to others. Last activity of the day was our English class. Our class was really fun because a group of us came up with an idea to not only teach them english but out of games too. Today we took the song lyrics from “Call Me Maybe” and took out the contractions that we have been teaching and have them listen to the song and find the contractions. This helped a lot of the students gain more knowledge in what we are teaching them. Overall today I think was a great day because I felt that we did so much more when we woke up early. Yes a lot of the students did not like waking up but its best to wake up early so you can get a lot of things done throughout the day. This experience as a leader was very fun and I learned a lot about myself and what I can do. We had a lot of fun today and everyone misses everyone back at home. 7 days left. Can’t wait!
