Cap Execution Day!
Hola! This is Jack and Makenna here ready to inform you about today’s happenings! To start the day off we had a great breakfast of omelet and some toast, which was a great way to kick start our work filled day. After breakfast we headed out to Fundacion Cristal where we had the whole day to continue our projects that we started the day before. We were able to make an extraordinary amount of progress; digging out all the holes where the plants were going to be planted by the cute little children tomorrow as well as finishing painting the 200+ signs that were going to be placed in front of the plants. The weather was fairly nice to us, providing a comforting sprinkle for those that were outside doing laborious work as well as a nice breeze for those that were working inside the school on the center garden. Throughout our 7 hours at the school we were able to accomplish a ton more than was expected of us since it was only our second day there. After our CAP project we headed back to the hostel where we celebrated one of our beloved Global Glimpse Leader’s birthday with lots of dancing, cake, and candy.
Today was a great day for us to exemplify the three C’s since we were all working hard and having fun at the same time. Those that worked on the outside garden had to have an exceptional amount of courage, lifting rocks off of ant hills as well as finding scorpions in the flower bags. For those that worked on the plant signs demonstrated their complete commitment to this project through their tedious work of sanding, painting, drying, and repeating all day long. Those that worked in the center garden showed every drop of compassion that they had through the delicate handiwork on the flowers that would definitely bring a smile to the children and parents of the community.
One thing that definitely stood out to us was the issue of proper communication that the group had with each other, whether it be within the group or with the other volunteers that were present today. Although we started the day a little rough with lack of understanding each other’s intentions, we were able to put all that aside after lunch and progress towards the success that we ended the day with. We both were extremely proud of the way the group was able to be so flexible with the change in plans of the assigned roles, because of this we managed to develop better as a family and complete more than expected of us today!
Today was a blessing and a curse for us as LDDs since three of the four adult leaders could not be present throughout the day due to a various reasons (but don’t worry, we were completely safe and there was a ton of adult supervision!). This opportunity forced us to really step up our game and leave our comfort zones to lead 17 rowdy teenagers throughout one of the most important days of the trip. We made sure that everyone was drinking plenty of water throughout the day as to not get dehydrated as well as using proper necessities to protect ourselves from the sun, insects. We also made sure that everyone had an opportunity to contribute to the different aspects of the CAP project since we had multiple mini projects that required different skills.
Something that we both learned today as LDDs was that communication is essential for a team to be “a well-oiled machine” that is able to go further than any other.
Tomorrow is CAP Execution Day 3 and the LDD is Resha. We know she will kill it tomorrow, and we’re both super excited to finish up our project.
See you guys soon!
Makenna and Jack
PS – Most importantly on behalf of the whole delegation we would like to wish all the dads out there a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY…attached are some words from your dear children.
Howdy Jin-Sheng Wang,
Thanks for being the number day out there with all those random moments when you would barge in to my room to ask if I saw the latest sport update of your beloved Michigan State Spartans, even though you always know that my answer to that question is a simple shrug or a annoyed grunt thanks for the little things such as that.
Best of wishes from Nicaragua,
Jack
P.S. Send me to Asia next summer 😀 LOL

Hi Kenna- Sounds like an amazing day! Thanks for the great update. Proud to hear how you stepped up as LDD on what seemed like a tough day. I bet all these projects helping the people in need are really rewarding. Hope you are having fun and enjoying yourself at the same time as all the hard work. Talk to you soon!
Hi Kenna and Jack, I loved hearing about your day. What a great blog! Great job on leading your team today! It truly sounds like you guys did so much more than just exemplify the three C’s…courage, commitment and compassion. Everything you’re doing for the kids, parents and the community in Nicaragua will be loved, appreciated, and remembered! I couldn’t be more proud.
Kenna, we love and miss you and we can’t wait for you to come home! I hope this humbling experience will forever stay in your heart!
Grandma and Papa came by today for Fathers Day. Everyone has been asking how you’re doing. They all miss you!! What a sweet note you left for both your dads!
Looking forward to reading the next blog.
Proud of you Makenna and your team!
You all are working hard but know that it is a rewarding feeling to make a difference. What an experience to remember down the road.

Well done team! Looks like you really accomplished a lot today. I’m sure you guys are now really bonding and getting to know each others personalities, strengths, fears and even weaknesses. And this understanding of each other really will help the LDD to know how to motivate the group.
So proud that you all were so determined and confident to get this project of the ground literally!!
The garden is going to be amazing and I’m sure that the community is going to love it.
Thank you Jack and Makenna for the detailed blog. We look forward to tomorrow’s update from Resha.
Rishi, we miss you a lot too, but so happy that you are part of this amazing experience. Can’t wait to hear all about it when you are home in 5 days! Yep I’m counting now!
Take care and be safe.
Love Mommy, Papa, Shaan and Anjali.
Good job LDDs! When u return, looks like this trip is turning u all into productive leaders. I am very proud. Good for the world!
Vivian, your dad is so touched with the message you sent. Father’s day celebration is not the same without you. I am so glad u love it there. I always knew it is your passion to better people’s life especially the less fortunate children. I am so proud of you!
Love u so much,
Mommy Daddy
Hi Zach,
The garden looks really good so far. You’ve had some good practice planting things with your SCA trips. 200 signs is a lot! Were you one of the lucky ones to find a scorpion? I took Gena to the county fair. We had a lot of fun. She wasn’t too happy that one of the donkeys chewed a hole in her shirt but she manged to get a good picture of the alpaca.
<3 Good luck with CAP Day 3!
Great blog Jack and Makenna. You Glimpsers managed your time very well for the CAP project and the garden is taking shape!! Amazing work!! Happy birthday to the GGL! How special it is to celebrate with the Glimpsers!
Alison, dada hasn’t read your Father’s Day message yet but he will in the morning and I can already see the smile on his face from cheek to check!! We celebrated FD with Goon Goon, Poh Poh, and Uncle Mo and we miss your Father’s Day special. We can’t wait to see you later this week. Miss you and love you so much! Mama
You guys will have to come home and write a complete chapter in your diary about what it’s like to be attacked by ants and scorpions well creating a lasting difference in a remote part of Nicaragua ! Ok well maybe not attacked but you’re allowed a little literary license!
How gratifying it must be to build something that the local people will remember forever!
Warmest and hugs!
Lovely description of your day Jack & Makenna. So very proud of all of you in working hard towards completing your CAP project, which I bet is not easy. It has taught you life skills in better communication, working together as a team, working hard in completing your goals and not forgetting the three C’s.
Resha- Looking forward to your blog today and knowing more about CAP execution day 3. Will share the blog with Masi and Aai also as they have been asking about you.
We flew from Puno to Lima today and tomorrow will be flying back home. A little sad as our wonderful time in Peru is coming to an end. Our tour group has been awesome and today we will have our last dinner together and bid adieu and move on with our lives. I am sure you will also experience the same emotions the day before you head back home. It was nice hearing from you on the occasion of Father’s Day!
With lots of love, hugs and kisses to you!??
Thank you Jack and Makenna for the wonderful write up. Glad to see that you learnt to value communication. You will probably continue to see the value of it more and more as you get through high school, then college and finally work.
Resha, It felt very good to hear from you finally. We have not talked to you since you left. I am so glad you are enjoying and can’t wait to hear more about it. I am sure these last few days have made you a better person and as parents that’s all we wish for our kids. With lots of love, Papa
Hi vivian! I hope you are having fun. Hailey made carrot cake for fathers day. We miss you at home and the eggs didn’t hatch yet. Have fun and we can’t wait until you come back:)
You can tell that how much you’ve all grown and are becoming quite the family. Strangers have become family and are moving to become family. What an exciting time and a great experience.
Alison,
Sounds like another successful day! The garden looks great. Only a few more days until you’ll be sleeping in your own bed! I wanted to assure you that I am listening to my Shawn cd you made me in the car everyday so I will be very prepared for the concert? Enjoy your final days in Nicaragua!!
Love, Amanda
Hi Seth,
Thank you so so much for the father’s day greatings!!! I love the picture of you working in the field.
I can’t wait to see you and hear all about your trip!!!

Hi Seth,
Looks like you guys are doing great over there. It’s so easy for us who live in the US to take things for granted and forget that millions of people around the world are not so blessed. So proud of you and the rest of the GG family for making a difference! I especially like your gardening photo. Maybe now you can help your Dad clean up our backyard and make it look pretty again, lol! Anyway,
Bella and I are in Manila now and leaving for Hong Kong tomorrow with Wowa and Dadong. We miss you very much and can’t wait to see you at the end of the month. Love you! Mom
Great job Jack and Makenna on the blog. Everyone is doing great working as a team to accomplish the daily goals. I got a few plants over here Makenna that need to be planted when you get back, lol. Thank you for the Father’s Day wishes and kind words. We all miss you Makenna and can’t wait to see when you get back. Take care and I’ll talk to you soon, love you!
Great blog Jack and Makenna. All the Glimpsers are awesome for working so well together. The garden looks amazing.

I continue to be so very, very proud of all of you. What a wonderful and beautiful impact you have made on so many lives. The remaining days are going to fly by so enjoy every remaining moment. Continue to be safe and looking out for each other.
Hi Kenna, You and Jack did a great job on your blog. I so enjoy hearing about your daily adventures. Sounds like you accomplished quite a lot today and learned how valuable team work is to accomplishing your goals. It must warm your heart to know that the work you’re doing there will have such a positive effect on those that will be enjoying all that you and the whole team have done. I’m sure you will all be remembered , especially by the children, for some time. Enjoy these last couple of days. See you soon. I love you. xoxo
Jack, thank you for your feedback. Miss you so much!!
Hi Kenna, I am so happy and proud of you. Experiencing the great sense of solidarity with other young adults and the joy and gratitude of a family, a village unlike anything you probably felt before. There are so many things and good will that you have witnessed in a short period of time you spent. Love you always!
