Hello loved ones! It is Ashley and Josue here to give you guys an idea of what we have been up to today. We started the day by waking up a bit before 6:30 in order to make sure everyone was awake and able to have an hour before breakfast at 7:30. Once we finished our meal we all sat down to take some time to think about how we all were able to attend this amazing trip and share our appreciation as well as our newly found knowledge in letters to those who supported us to take part of this once in life time experience. When we finished our rough drafts of these thoughtful letters we headed out on a mission to Las Hormiguitas, a place where compassionate people from the community gather in order to to provide not only education to children who suffer from intense labor conditions, broken homes and impecunious conditions, but also psychological support. Their education does not end with the basics you learn in school. They explain and help these children deal with things they face everyday such as addiction, abuse, personal hygiene as well as personal and family issues. This is the organization that  made it possible for us to attend “a day of school” at the dump and provided their mobile school as an ice breaker for us to interact with the children who dig through the trash in search of something they could sell to support their family or even just something to eat. With this in mind, we wanted to help them provide a welcoming place for the children to seek help or even just have some fun.

Here are some photos of the area we are working on before we started our progress of repainting the inside and outside of the bathrooms ( the blue doors are the entrance to the individual stalls where we are also installing lights and shelves), knocking out a curb and leveling out the area next to it in order to move the shelves we will be rebuilding that hold the changeable panels used with the mobile school over to create space for a punching bag. We are also hiring a professional to extend the roof to cover this area, all made possible by the six hundred dollars we all pitched in

As it was all very hard work, we made the best out of it by creating our own a cappella concert with classic songs and breaks of tic tac toe, bottle cap edition. We can all agree that this was quite an exhausting day and we were absolutely thrilled to come back home to our beloved Frances, the owner of the hotel, to have made us hamburgers! You would think this was the cherry on top of our day, however, we had another birthday to celebrate! It was our “father’s” (Alex, a global  glimpse leader)  26th birthday!

We are tremendously exhausted and are ready for some rest, Ashley and Josue here signing off!

P.S. I miss lucky so much, Nana please make sure he is cozy at night and overly feed!
