Today, we woke up at 6:15 am and initiated our first day of our Community Action Project (CAP). The first day of the CAP consisted of providing netting in the kitchen at Fabretto school. Fabretto school is located near the local dump so therefore flies have been making the kitchen unsanitary and a challenging work space for the Fabretto cooks. In the morning we purchased supplies at the local hardware and paint store. It was difficult because we couldn’t find a solution to attaching the netting to the cement walls. We came to the solution to zip tie the netting to the bars on the roofing and windows. It deprived us of some valuable time, but we were able to work together to come up with the idea. When we arrived to Fabretto school, we quickly began working but shortly we realized that we were low on supplies. Some Glimpsers had to leave to buy more netting, but the others worked with what we had. By the time the other Glimpsers returned, we had finished netting half of the roof. Although the morning was stressful, we were able to work together and get the job done. It was a challenge, but we were able to over come our differences and come to compromises with the contrasting ideas. By the end of the day we finished netting the roof and all the windows. After a long day of hard work, we went to our last English tutoring class at the Casa de Cultura. Many goodbyes were said, many pictures were taken, and even some tears were shed. Our English tutoring class serves as one of the many examples of the impact we had on the people of Esteli, Nicaragua. Although, many of our Glimpsers dealt with the language barrier, we were able to form strong bonds between our students. After tutoring some of the glimpsers raced back to the Hostel in order surprise our birthday celebrant/leader of the day, Allyssa. We decorated the common area with candles, balloons, cake, and a banner. We gave her a couple of presents and she seemed very surprised. We then danced and listened to music to celebrate Allyssa’s special day. This was a great way to end a very stressful but fulfilling day.
PS: a quick shout out to Allyssa’s and Laurel’s parents! love and miss you guys! See you in 3 days!!!
