Today was the Final Countdown of the CAP Fence project (Shoutout to Dreamteam, Farrel and Raul for our wonderful idea!!!) It was a warm day today, with much to do in the morning. We woke up at 6:00 to the wonderful vocals of William singing the Circle of Life to every room. Breakfast followed at 7:00, and we headed out at 8:00. Lauren and Siale went to buy supplies for the learning center, while Alex, Paige and Michael went to buy the rest of the materials for the fence and water collector. The rest of the delegation proceeded to the Hope Center in Sor Maria. There they lined the bottom of the fencing with stones we had collected and concrete to make it more secure. Around 9:30 Lauren and Siale arrived with the Learning Center supplies, and set them up in the main room. At 11:00 us glimpsers ate a tasty snack from the bakery, and then quickly got back to work. Next we had to construct the pathway between the (future) gate and the front door of the building. Those without construction jobs played with and taught the little kids. Lunch was around noon, and soon after the rest of the materials arrived.

From noon to 3:00 we completed the pathway and the gate, as well as a sign to hang on the fence reading “HOPE PROJECT, 1 Corintios 13”. When it hit 3:00, we said our farewells to Uriel, the contractor, and Marcelino, the pastor, and all of the little children. We arrived back to the hostel about 3:30, took showers, prepared lessons for our English classes, and exchanged our money. We ate dinner at 5:00, and the Leaders of today and tomorrow had the Leadership Meeting. At 5:45 we departed from the hostel (with just Program Coordinator Alex, because our GG Leaders were enjoying a well deserved day off.) We went to El Progeso, the school where we teach English. Two hours later, after successful tutoring, we headed back to the hostel and had our usual nightly meeting, where the torch was passed to Los Lideres Del Dia for tomorrow, Paige and Jennifer.

And here we are now, having finished the CAP Project. It was an amazing experience for all of us and we really feel like we benefited the community, by making the Hope Center a safer environment, and a more established facility. We have two more days here in Matagalpa, and then we’ll be home with you all! We assure you we are all having fun and getting the best out of this trip, and that we also miss you all!
