Over the last three days, our delegation has executed a plan to beautify the local elementary school by recreating a garden to add more variety to the students’ meals and redesigning the preschool classroom to encourage a more positive learning environment.

Today was our final execution day for the CAP before our presentation. We all got an early start and worked together to finish both projects. After adding finishing touches to the murals on the classroom walls, a few of us painted tires for the garden while the rest of the group put in fresh soil.

We all finished our CAP several hours ahead of schedule, a product of courage, commitment, compassion, hard work, and teamwork. Our three facilitators presented our collective work to the school board along with gifts of new materials for the teachers to use as well as volleyballs and jumprope for the students to play with at recess. Each of us chipped in a little bit of our time and money and as a group, we were able to make a positive impact on the students’ and faculty’s lives. The vice principal’s face was priceless. The faculty was grateful for our work on the garden and the classroom as well as the much-needed classroom materials.

Being leader of the day helped me understand myself a little bit better, such as the way in which I adapt to certain situations (I need to improve), as well as show me how willing my peers are to give me, a softspoken introvert, a chance to take action and lead for a day.
