Question of the Day: Who is responsible to “develop” whom?

Today, we woke up to a great breakfast of pancakes for Fourth of July, then had a great seminar on Aid and Development taught by John and Ben. After, we got ready for our field trips to FUMDEC and Matasono to learn about the program and one woman’s experience with it. FUMDEC is an organization that focuses on helping women create businesses and become self-sufficient by using a microcredit program to give them the jumpstart they need.

FUMDEK After a presentation at FUMDEC, we went to Matasono to meet Aracely, a recipient of a loan from FUMDEC. Aracely started three years ago with three cows from which she was able to sell milk and cheese. Today, she has six cows and also a comedor (a small diner/restaurant) and she is saving up to be able to buy more land for her cows. While we were there, we got to learn how to make her delicious homemade Nica cheese, and then she fed us some amazing chicken and gallo pinto and vegetables. DSCF0495On the way back from Matasono (an hour drive), our bus got stuck and our amazing bus driver and some other great people helped us get out of the ditch. DSCF0543Once we got on the bus, the ride home was full of sleeping kids.
