To say that Poverty Day was a life-changing experience is an understatement. It began with a trip to the Las Hormiguitas Offices. This group has members from countries as far as Finland and their collective goal is to help the impoverished youth of Matagalpa get off the streets and learn skills they will need need to support themselves. We also learned of a mobile school made of airplane parts that was donated to Las Hormiguitas (the actual cost being about 10,000 USD). We aided in the transport of this school to the dump we visited today. What we saw there was in equal parts shocking, frightening, and enlightening. For the most part, what we see of true poverty are commercials for sponsoring children on TV. However, once the commercial is over, we forget all about it and focus our attention on the next program. Actually experiencing this poverty is something entirely unique and refreshing in the sense that it was such an intense experience. Being able to teach children who had to look through garbage to find shoes and clothes that fit was truly awe-inspiring and was almost unbelievable. This is an experience that my fellow Glimpsers and I certainly won’t forget and will allow us to appreciate what we have and those around us for years to come.

yes…that kind of poverty is truly an eye opener. It is horrifying to picture that people live without so much…and yes, once the commercial is over…we move on! But, I know your being there will make a big difference. What’s up for today.
My young man looks so handsome! Just by looking at these pictures one wouldn’t be able to tell that these are high school students! You all look very mature in your professional attire. It seems like you are making a huge positive impact on Nicaragua. This will be an experience you will forever cherish and so will the locals of Nicaragua! Love you and miss you Jay.
This blog literally brought me to tears. The part where poverty is described as seen on tv commercials really touched my heart. It is refreshing to see a group of young adults doing something so positive in a world so full of turmoil is refreshing and inspiring. I am sure this experience will not only change your lives and views but those that are sharing this experience with you even from just reading these blogs. So proud of each and every one of you. Thank you for everything you are all doing. Big hugs to all. Alma sweetheart. We love you and miss you each and every day. I know you are loving working with children. You are my role model. Te amo.
Thank you for taking those of us at home along on this incredible journey through your thoughts, pictures, and experiences. I’m truly moved by the selfless acts of compassionate service given by so many, and am so impressed how all of you have embraced these amazing people and their culture with such zeal! You are an inspiration! Such a humbling feeling to know how much we take for granted, when others have so little. Love you Jared and am so proud of you and all the glimpsers!
WOW I can’t even begin to imagine how it is to live in poverty but to read this and know it is real is an eye opener. Thank God for programs like Global Glimpse to be able to show our future leaders the reality of what goes on around the world we live in and to strive to make it a better place by giving back globally and making it a better place to live – learning that the little things you do can go a long way imagine how far a lot can go. Keep up the great work you are all amazing xoxo (Sophia I miss your sweet smile I am so happy I can see it here everyday)
Everyone looks so ready to conquer the world for the better! Like everyone that commented the part of the commercials made me open my eyes. Jaz a message from your cousin Madison.
She misses you and love and hurry home
So she can annoy you lol.
I love you mama
Hello Jazmine!!! Miss you & love you soooooo much 😉 We are all here supporting you and your crew 🙂
CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE… is what we need. The world is not informed of what’s going on in the world. From Nicaragua to Congo Africa. poverty and modern slavery is very well alive. Every time we buy the latest phone or laptop someone in Congo Africa is working long hard hours and working in a violent environment. They suffer digging for Coltan (mineral found in electronic items). just a little fyi 😉

Hi G! I can sense your internal growth through these pictures. Everyone looks so refreshed and ready to take on the world. Giving Jared a huge shout out for taking on this challenge and giving these game changers an opportunity to make their dream come true. You all are inspiring and have so much potential to continue the work y’all doing in Nicaragua and bring it back home in NY. I love you G. <3
As I read these daily blogs it amazes me how great you kids are, giving up a part of your summer vacation to help others less fortunate than you.
I am so glad you stuck it out Jaz! Keep up the good work!!!
Miss you so much!
What a really powerful day. Experiences like this day stay with people for the rest of their lives. GG is helping not only the people they come into contact with, but is making a wonderful group of young people appreciative of what they have and what they can do. I’m very proud of Michelle, Jared and all of the students…..

Hey Sophia!! -Alex
PS write back (:
Love you and am so proud of u Sophia xoxo
Ally,
You write so beautifully. How special it is to have such eye opening experiences and to learn about our world and its inhabitants. My friend recently told me that she believes the purpose of life is to have human interaction. I must agree with her. In some ways, I do think that we are put on this earth to make a difference and to help others in small and large ways. You are making a very large difference to so many on this journey, and I have no doubt in my mind that this is just the beginning of your impact on the world. Lots of love.
