Day 8 was a Free Day, and Glimpsers were able to choose the activities they wanted to participate in.

Many times in our life, we will have lots of free time. The most important lesson today is using our free time wisely. One of the great ways to spend one’s free time is to self-reflect and unleash emotions, even if it means crying.

As the Student Leader, what surprised me the most today was the amount of emotion my group freely showed one another. The fact that this was done so comfortably and easily proves that we have already formed such an amazingly strong bond within only a week of the trip. I believe releasing emotions is healthy, and it is good to know that if any one ever feels like doing so, the rest of the group is here to show support.

My peers made me proud today by showing their hard work. About two hours were provided to the English teaching groups to prepare tonight’s lesson plan, and everyone was working diligently. The classes were clearly successful, and all our hard work definitely paid off.

Being Él Líder del Día was such an amazing experience. I got to experience how it is like to be the person who gives announcements and instructions, which is not as easy as it sounds because I did face some challenges. Within only a day, I have learned a great deal about leadership with the help of my Global Glimpse Leaders. I was told that one of my strengths was my assertiveness, and I hope future leaders of the day learn from what I have contributed.

Today I learned that I am stronger than I think I am. I have experienced many hardships—some still affect me strongly today. The important thing to remember, however, is that all the negativity that life gives me will cease to exist as long as I keep my head up and stay positive. I believe this is true for any individual.

“An entire sea of water can’t sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship. Similarly, the negativity of the world can’t put you down unless you allow it to get inside you.”

From this day forward, I will pass this on to my peers to remind them that our time here should be spent wisely. Instead of letting negative thoughts consume our mind, we should focus on the new things we learn everyday—even on free days. After all, this is a once in a lifetime experience, and we are all very fortunate to be able to take part in this amazing journey.
