The final day of CAP has arrived! With only half of the painting done, everyone knew there was still a lot to do. All of the 23 Glimpsers (including the both of us) had tasks to do from the very beginning of the day. We started with an early wake-up call at 7 am to begin with, then delegated tasks for the builders as soon as breakfast was over. It was their job to buy more paper, tape, putty and paint to continue our still long list of things to do. The bathroom still had to be painted, the art needed to be done, floors scrubbed, posters hung, furniture moved… SO MUCH TO DO, SO LITTLE TIME! We had around 8 hours to finish the Bomberos and turn it in to a sustainable community center for the people of Estelí. So in order be as efficient as possible, we made sure everyone knew what they were doing and got everyone who didn’t have a task to pick up a brush and start painting. We needed as many hands as possible to finish this immense project. Even our English students lent a helping hand and did what they could to help out (shout out to José and Alexander!). It truly was a community project! When we finally finished the last touches, everyone was taking pictures and smiling in pride of the finished project. It was amazing to see how a group of 23 kids could turn an old, run-down room into a beautiful, lively community center. We even had visitors from Channel 21 come and interview a few of us to learn about our project.
That night was English Class and all the students who walked in were struck with awe. We took them on tours around the room (even the beautifully redone bathroom). Afterwards, everyone returned to the hotel exhausted after a long day of hard work!
