Hi friends and family, today was an emotional day for many of us. We took a field trip to a place in Nicaragua called the “Dump”. The Dump is a place where some locals dig through trash in order to provide a living for their families. These people work tremendously hard to scavenge for plastic, metal, glass, and other things to sell for a profit. Unfortunately, this is a very difficult way to make a living and most of the people are living off of either a dollar a day or less (this is classified as extreme poverty). Upon reflection, our group decided that although there are many ways to process what we witnessed today, we all agree that it shouldn’t just end with feeling pity or sadness for these people, it has to end with a plan or an action.
In the afternoon, we also had an amazing opportunity to visit an after-school program called La Casa De Sueños. La Casa De Sueños is built on a love based foundation that cherishes the power of human bonding and development. At La Casa, we then found out our CAP project (Community Action Project). We raised enough money to help out La Casa and its students with problems that they have been trying to figure out forever. We are all excited to work with such amazing people that were happy to work with us in return!
BIG LOVE TO JENNY for getting to know Thania when she was having trouble talking to people! She really stepped out on her leadership role and made other students feel comfortable when they couldn’t.
BIG LOVE TO GISSELLE for getting out of her comfort zone and sitting with new people during dinner! She introduced the idea of what GG is all about: creating leaders on a daily basis!
BIG LOVE TO EVERYONE in GG for making this experience meaningful and gratifying.
Wow! I can imagine the heaviness on your heart for them…as I can feel it. Be strong and share as much love and knowledge as you can!
I’m so proud of all of you!
Hope you all continue having a great experiences. Stepping up to help others is great Jenny 🙂
Meeting new people and sharing with them is also great Giselle.
So glad you all have great leaders to process daily challenging experiences.
