Today was our second and final fun day here in Jinotega. We started our fun day off with a not so fun wake up of 4:00 AM. A small group got together and headed through the streets to the comedor to pick up both breakfast and lunch, all before the sun had risen. Everyone goton the bus and started our 3 hour long drive to Somoto Canyon, at a little before 5:30 AM. We enjoyed beautiful views on our drive, with Marvin behind the wheel, and arrived ready to go at around 8:30 AM. We got our life vests, applied our sun screen, and began our hike. We hiked a short distance up and then down, less than a mile, before we reached the Rio Coco. The views were great, as we spent time on the Nicaragua-Honduras border. After spending a few minutes taking pictures, we put our cameras away and began the real fun. We started out walking through shallow, knee deep water. The water was cool as the weather was warmer  in Somoto than the cooler climate we are used to in Jinotega. As we went along, the water got deeper. We floated through the river and enjoyed the beautiful scenery surrounding us. After a short distance, we reached what everyone had been waiting for: a ledge to jump off. The smallest of the three we jumped from, only 2 meters, everyone was excited and eager to participate. After jumping, we continued our journey down the river and reached another ledge. This ledge was a little bit higher at 3 meters. With a few more nerves to jump from this ledge, most of the group took the leap and emerged from the water with smiling faces. With a few slips in between, we reached our third and final jump- 7 meters. The enthusiasm to jump was overwhelming, and almost everyone jumped. After our final jump, we relaxed as we floated along the river and continued to enjoy the beautiful canyon that surrounded us. When we reached the end, we all divided and got inside small boats to take us closer the bus. We did another small hike and reached the bus where we got on and left. We enjoyed our lunch provided by Buffet el Familiar as we began the 3 hour drive back to Hotel Kiuras and our home in Jinotega.

After having beautiful weather in Somoto, we returned to rain. We had some free time before we regrouped to discuss a little more about our CAP project and what our final plans were. After our productive and brief meeting, we headed over to dinner where we had yummy Nicaraguan tacos and gallo pinto. After dinner we returned home to have our nightly meeting and enjoy some free time before bed. As our trip is coming to an end, and fast, we are getting both excited and sad to return back home. We are going to enjoy every minute we have left on our great trip and are excited for what is to come in our final days.
