Hello all! This is Khayla Bullock from Berkeley High School and I am sad to say that this is our last day in beautiful Matagalpa, Nicaragua! Today’s day started off at the wonderful hour of 6:00am followed by a simple breakfast. After this we focused on our self reflection day in which we remembered the past two weeks. This was a very emotional time for all of us because it really hit us that this life changing trip is coming to an end. We had so much fun getting to know each other and bonding. From the first day at the airport and everyone playing cards, to everyone tearing up while giving the final big love shout outs at the nightly meeting.
For me, this trip began when I had to apply to get in. This was something that I really had to decide to commit to. And then the rush came when I was accepted. This was when I knew that my life would be changed forever. A few months later the wait to leave came to an end and the next thing I knew I was on and airplane going to Miami and then to Managua. The first night was when we all started to get to know each other and when we all started to get close. The next day we traveled to Matagalpa, and moved into our hostel El Castillo, aka home away from home. We then became familiar with the city we would be living in for the next two and a half week trip. After the first day everything went by in a breeze.
Some of the more memorable learning moments for me were when we went to the dump where we learned about how other people live, when we went to live like a local in Llano Grande, and when we farmed for only half of the time that they work. Another aspect of our trip included going to the different locations like the volcano or the local hike for the fun days. Overall this trip has really put all of us in a different mindset. It has opened up our minds and made us really want to make a strong impact on the world. To conclude, we look forward to returning home to continue our impact on the world.
Sincerely yours, KB
