Hey y’all, it’s yo girls, the leaders of the day, Jerlene and Daphne. 🙂 Today, we got an early start on our CAP and woke up at 6am. We had our typical breakfast of Gallo Pinto, which was delicious. lol.
We headed to Casa Materna at 7 and got to work. We mixed cement and finished the top layer of our wall. We also finished our painting of the quote, “the moms take care of Mother Earth” and a globe, symbolizing Global Glimpse. Shoutout to Celi for her great artistic skills. During down time, we practiced a performance that we were preparing for our English students’ graduation ceremony. More details on that to come. We were able to finish by noon and presented the project to Ivannia, the director of Casa Materna. It meant a lot to us to be able to present the project that all of us worked extremely hard on. Seeing her reaction made us feel as if we really made an impact. She mentioned how Casa Materna would not have been able to gather the resources necessary to complete the wall without Global Glimpse. We hope that the wall is sustainable and provides stability to the multipurpose room. Because of everyone’s generous donations, we were not only able to finish the project, but we also had extra money left over. With the extra money, we gave some to the contractors who volunteered to help with our project and also bought a cake for Ivannia’s birthday. As a group, we sang to her in Spanish and ate cake together.
After our morning at Casa Materna, we ate lunch and returned to the hostel. We had free time to finish up our letters of appreciation and work on English tutoring lesson plans. Several groups went out and were able to shop for souvenirs and snacks. After some fun out in the city, we returned back to the hostel  and got ready to tutor. At English tutoring, everyone was productive, but also we felt sad that English tutoring was coming to an end. For dinner, we ate at a “fancy” restaurant called “Coffee and Cocktails”. Some of us bought coffee as dessert, no more Gallo Pinto :). When we returned to the hostel we debriefed our CAP project. Everyone felt a sense of satisfaction knowing we completed the project that Casa Materna really needed. We finished the day with a nightly meeting. We were able to CAP off three days of hard work. We had the opportunity to complete the project and also to see everyones faces when were finally done. We could tell that everyone was extremely proud of the work we accomplish. We were also able to start a new project in the performance for our English students. As leaders, we had to push ourselves in communicating with the rest of the group to come up with an idea that we all liked. We are excited for the students to see our talents. Thanks for reading. Have a great night!
GINA TRANNNN! I MISS U SO MUCH UGHHHH! SCHOOL IS STARTING SOON AND IM NOT READY YET!
Hey Isabel, Congrats to you and your fellow glimpsers for finishing the CAP project . Also , super cool that you guys had a graduation show for your English students . Hope your having fun.
For all glimpsers: Before your trip comes to an end, make sure you’ve talked to everyone and that your group is finding a way to stay in touch. Make sure to give thanks to your coordinator and GG leaders . And really try to stay in touch with each other.
To the group,
Whattup my dudes, So glad to see the finished wall. *Insert Trump joke here* I heckin’ miss ya’ll and for the love of god I hope all of you drank water. If you pass out due to heat exhaustion I will fly to Nicaragua and hit you with a fairly decently sized stick or similar blunt object.
To the Boys. (and Norma, who is also one of the boys)
Oh how I have spent many nights in search of other boys to crack open cold ones with, however nothing compares to My dudes (and Norma) in Nicaragua. I bought some of those penguin things in the US and it legit tasted like cardboard. (The boys will know what I’m talking about) It was sort of like a month old sandwich that consisted of a sandpaper bun and a ranch dressing filling. But anyways, my youtube channel is pretty dank, I’m at a whopping 113 subs and counting. Oh yeah, that reminds me. Gerald, tell everyone to peep my soundcloud, fam. That stuff is heckin’ fire. Real litty, yadda da mean? New mixtape droppin’ soon. I’m thinking about calling it “110 Degrees in a McDonalds Parking Lot”. It has a really deep and spiritual meaning. I’m really surprised you actually kept reading this far. Now I kinda want to see what else I can make you say. Ayyyyyy LMAO Gotteeem 420 quickscope reeeeeeeee boi ya’ll mind if I live a wholesome christian lifestyle. Sorry, I’m really bored right now. What the friggity Frack, I think a spider is across my room. Hol up, I’m bout to kill this fool. I just threw my shoe at it and missed. My mother raised a failure. now I have one shoe. Anyways, have fun with your trip thing I guess. Btw tell the boys that the fitness gram pacer test is a multi- aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues.
-Humbly yours, David/Dave/The other David/The less cool one
Daphne and Jerlene-great recap of the CAP and the day’s activities. Thank you for posting the photos so that we can see what the finished projects look like.
Ayla-cherish your remaining time in Esteli and the friendships you’ve made and reflect on the memories that you’ve created. We can’t wait to hear about your trip!
Kendall.. One more thing.. Lol
I went to Pirate Day at SLHS today.
I tried to get your yearbook, get your parking permit, get you a sweatshirt and get you a locker.
All negative. Permits and. Yearbooks are sold when school starts. No-one knew how to get a sweatshirt and you’ll get a locker on your first day.
Total fail. Duh
Ok.. That’s all. Now back to My Strange Addiction. These people kill me… Really people?

Congratulations on CAP completion Glimpsers – it looks like you’ve done some nice work there! Now that we know what good workers you all are, you can’t escape the chores and home improvement projects we have lined up for you when you get back 🙂
Just a couple more days left – make the most of them! Capture the essence of Esteli, and don’t forget to exchange contact info so you can all stay in touch once this journey is over.
Dorky Joke of the Day:
Three dead men go to hell at the same time – the first one greedy, the second one corrupt, and the third one an NYC street hustler. Satan tells them that they can only leave hell if he can’t do what they ask. The greedy man asks for one trillion dollars to appear before him; Satan snaps his fingers, the cash appears and the man disappears into hell. The corrupt man asks to be President of the United States; Satan once again snaps his fingers, the man is (briefly) president and then disappears into hell. The last man gets a glass soda bottle, farts into it, closes the lid, pokes many holes in the lid, and asks Satan which hole the fart came from. After pointing to every hole on the lid, the man turns around, points at his butt hole, and says, “Nope, this one.” The street hustler currently has a very successful game of 3-card Monty going on in Times Square.
Ayla – what more can I say? Mom and I are very much looking forward to seeing you and hearing all about your trip. We hope that this experience has been everything you hoped it would be, and more. I love you, and Adventure On!!!
We know you’re probably really tired and tomorrow will be a looooong day, but we want to thank you for sharing so much of your trip and for all the work you did. You’ll have memories all your lives and leave memories with all the people you touched in Esteli. We enjoyed the posts and photos! Thanks and have a safe flight home!
