Today was our first “Free Day.” Students had the freedom to explore the city of Constanza with the GGLs. Our stops included the souvenir shop, the basketball court, and the pastry shop. We were able to immerse ourselves in the Dominican culture by delving into their foods and wandering the streets of the city. We were able to see the options the city offers for kids our age. In Constanza there are less activities to entertain and occupy the time of the youth. In contrast, Chicago offers countless opportunities for kids to engage in their interests. Whether its the beach, festivals, sports, parks, the movie theater, and more, Chicagoans have more options to explore their passions. However, Chicago is a city of nearly 4 million people, while the city of Constanza has a population of 100,000 people. Because of their smaller community, Dominicans must be more creative with their free time.

Hello all,
After the difficult topics you have recently seen & discussed, it is good to see you have a day to yourselves. We enjoyed the pictures with the young children and their smiles.

I’m so impressed with the program!! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all involved to make a real difference and engage in creating meaningful impact through their daily interactions with beautiful souls they meet. The activities mix community service with global and cultural awareness that will inspire and encourage the students to continue learning and serving even after they have returned from their trip. I’m so very proud of my niece..Ms. Eryn Brazil…Eryn this shout out is for you!!! God Bless you and all your fellow volunteers!!
Love Tia (Deborah Salako)
