Today in Riobamba, we had our first fun day which started at the very early time of 5:45 for Julie and me, while everyone else woke up an hour later. In the morning, after another breakfast at Cafe del Tren with delicious hot chocolate, we boarded the bus for a two and a half hour bus ride to go to Pailon del Diablo, an extremely beautiful waterfall. Our hiking boots were very much needed on the downhill walk to the waterfall as there were many slippery rocks. Once we arrived at the waterfall, we were soaked even with our ponchos. It was definitely bigger than we expected it to be. After looking from a small cliff, we walked to a bridge that gave us a better view. On the other side of the bridge we stopped to take pictures with people from our schools. Then came the hard part, the hike back going uphill. Multiple water breaks and pauses were very much needed.

We finally reached the end of our hike and it was time to head to a vegetarian Kichua restaurant where the vegetarians had the most amazing rice, veggie burgers, salad and potatoes, while everyone else had delicious chicken, white rice, and potatoes. Before we left, everyone signed a napkin to leave at the restaurant to leave our mark as the RB2C Global Glimpse group. The bus ride back to the hostel was very fun and entertaining. Everyone was singing different songs together very loudly. We did need a  few bathroom stops because of the 3 hour ride. Once we arrived, we had a few minutes to get ready to go to dinner at Frida’s. Frida’s is a mexican restaurant that is normally closed on Sundays, but opened just for us. Vegetarians ate mushroom burritos while others had the choices of spicy chicken enchiladas, a carnitas burrito, or a chorizo taco and everyone had fresh lemonade to drink. After thanking the owner, we walked back to Tren Dorado, our hostel with the company of two stray dogs. When we finally got back to the hostel, we had our usual nightly meeting where we passed the torch to the next leaders of the day.
