Today us glimpsers experienced the differences between the Global Business farms and the local farms of Constanza. We first met our speaker, Leonardo Bueno, from Natural Fields. This corporation was not owned by the locals; however, from what the speaker said the business grew their produce with minimal pesticides and good benefits for their workers. Much like all the Dominicans we have met throughout the trip, the speaker was very kind, compassionate, enthusiastic, and easy to talk to. After our delicious lunch (all meals have been thoroughly enjoyable), we visited a beautiful and captivating local farm owned by Juan Suriel. The farm had about forty acres of land connected by a series of dirt paths and adventuresome rope bridges. We ended our day with a seminar on how to teach English to the locals because tomorrow is our education day.
All of the Glimpsers witnessed how fortunate and spoiled we are living in a country that caters to our every need and desire. Through experiencing the happiness of children and workers among their farms, we were filled with happiness and hope. The welcoming hands of Juan Suriel and his enthusiasm toward his craft was surprising in a precious way. In my perspective, among with that of many others from the delegation, Juan was a great model of the people we have met so far in Constanza: welcoming, grateful, hardworking, happy, inspiring, and optimistic. I was proud of how quickly the delegation has begun to bond over simple pleasures like sweet coconut treats.
Being El Lider Del Dia was a wonderful experience. Though having a certain authority over the delegation was exciting, it was not what made it excellent. The perfect part of being El Lider Del Dia was the ability to grant the speakers the thanks and appreciation they deserve. As El Lider Del Dia I was able to personally give the speakers thanks and a gift in return for the impactful experiences they presented us with. Today I learned to approach all opportunities with an enthusiastic air and a positive attitude. Today along with the entire trip has been an awesome, awe inspiring experience.
