I am Sia and I am hoping to make this trip an unforgettable experience for the students AND for myself. It is amazing to have the opportunity be able to immerse in a different culture and learn about the world and our place in it. A bit about myself:

I am originally from Iran and moved to the Bay Area in 2001 when I was 13. I studied electrical engineering in UC Irvine and now work part time as a Civil Engineer for the State of California. My work is focused around railroad safety. With the rest of my time, I pursue music projects. I absolutely love music and play multiple instruments. I also like to geek out on the recording process of music. One of my recording project was funded on Kickstarter for which I got to travel to Iran and record some incredible musicians! Dominican Republic is home to Merengue which is an interesting mix of music from Africa and Spain among others. I hope to be able to catch some live music on this trip!

Aside from work and music, I enjoy spending time with friends and family and try to be out doors as much as I can. I will be reaching out to you guys on the phone soon, so expect a call from me or Karina! Again words cannot describe how excited I am for this trip. So excited to meet you all!
