Hi Everybody –
I’m so excited about our upcoming trip – I’ve been preparing along with the rest of you and am looking forward to our three weeks together in Nicaragua. You should know right away that in addition to my travel experience which does include time in Costa Rica and in El Salvador (more on that later), I’m a Registered Nurse, so you’ll be in good hands while we’re traveling. I also teach yoga and will be happy to have company when I practice.
So I’ve traveled with another ‘service learning’ organization to both Uganda where the emphasis was on their successful battle against AIDS and HIV, as well as El Salvador, where the focus was on how one community, Ciudad Romero, was able to re-establish itself and heal after their civil war. I found this experience to be truly inspirational.
What else…I have a husband and two cats, who I’ll be missing while we’re away. I do have an iPod that I plan to bring as well as a battery-operated camera.
What do I want to know about YOU?
- Have you traveled with a non-family group before?
- How much Spanish can you speak? (yo hablo poquito Espanol)
- What do you plan to bring with you for fun or ‘me time?’ (I plan to jump rope for exercise.)
I’m looking forward to speaking with you and hearing from you on this blog.
Onward and Upward!
Stuart
Here are the answers to your questions……
1) I have traveled outside of the country and inside the country with friends, but never alone.
2) My Spanish is ok. I can understand more than I can actually speak.
3) I will bring cards, catch phrase, and possibly a paper set of dominoes!

Hi Stuart, I’m Brianna! So excited to meet you and the rest of the group! Here are some answers to your questions:
1) I have traveled with my school before, but never out of state nor country. I have only traveled to Tijuana a couple times with my family, so I don’t have too much traveling experience but I’m really excited to be able to!
2) I’m pretty good at Spanish. I can understand it better than I can speak it though.
3) I might bring some cards and books so I can get some summer reading done!
Thanks Briana, for responding. Because I can speak Spanish better than understand it, between the two of us we should make a good team.
Cards and books are great travel tools. See you soon!✈

Hey Stuart, David here! Looking forward to meet you and the rest of the group.
So to answer your questions.
1) I have traveled with a non-family group before. I usually go camping a lot with friends and church groups.
2) I can BARELY speak Spanish. Made it all the way to Spanish 3 at school but barely know how to count..
3) I’m planning on bringing a football and cards for the fun time! Both the things I enjoy doing.
Thx for bringing the ball. A great idea. I may bring a soccer ball as well. It was suggested that the ball be deflated for travel.
Stuart-
I’m looking forward to hearing about your adventures and accomplishments while you are on the trip.
