Hi!

Today was a first day in the Dominican Republic and our focus is history. Since we spent the night in Santo Domingo, we decided to make the best of out of the situation and learn about Dominican history in the capital before heading to Constanza. Before we headed out to the history rich area of Santo Domingo called “Zona Colonial”, we needed to cover two important seminars, hotel accommodation rules and culture and safety. It was a great idea to stay in the capital and explore la Zona Colonial. We had a chance to walk through beautiful historical parks, learn all about Dominican Republic Independence, see the oldest church in our hemisphere and purchase some souvenirs. We had a great time, but we had to get going and take our transportation to Constanza.

The ride was three hours long and we went high up the mountain. Constanza is a smaller, less touristic town and different from the big city of Santo Domingo (much cooler in temperature). We arrived at our Constanza hotel accommodations right on time for dinner. We had a delicious rice and chicken soup and we got to meet our hotel owner and staff. Our long day concluded with our first nightly meeting. Great first full day and this is only the beginning!!!
