Hello Everyone!
On our Immigration day we visited the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. We were given a tour by Taino Tours which gave us an understanding of how the Dominican Republic and Haiti attempt to better their relations with one another by allowing Haitians to enter the Dominican Republic. The border was the first place in which this effort was evident since each Monday and Friday the border is open, and an international market trade takes place between the Haitians and Dominicans (which gives job opportunities to both). After, visiting the border we went to a new museum that described and showed the cultural differences between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Then we went to the Binational market where the trade between Haitians Dominicans takes place. (Almost like the flea market back in the United States just more chaotic).
Thanks,
Luz and Michelle
Hey there Bailey,
What a day today must have been for you. I’m wonder how different the two countries are, and how it felt to see the variations in the cultures and the people.
I hope your toe is better, and that the food is continuing to be satisfying.
I love you and can’t wait to see you!!!
Love you so much, Mom
Hi Birdie!
Wow, you went to the border of Haiti?! That’s pretty exciting. I carried my
phone around with me all day hoping you would call, but no luck.?
It continues to be VERY humid here. We head home on Friday and I definitely won’t miss sweating profusely.
I hope you are safe and experiencing once in a lifetime events. We think of you often and wonder what you’re doing. Until tomorrow…

Very nice descriptive summary Luz and Michelle! It sounds as though the two countries are trying to integrate their cultures. The “flea market” must have been some crazy fun! 🙂
Thank you!
Sandra
