JetBlue and Global Glimpse are teaming up this summer to recognize outstanding Global Glimpse alumni as Brave New Travelers of the Month! The BNT is a GG alum from New York City who has been inspired to go above and beyond to contribute to their school or neighborhood community after traveling with Global Glimpse.

This month JetBlue recognizes Chanei Anderson from Brownsville, Brooklyn, a recent graduate of Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies. Chanei will be attending Cazenovia College next year; the first in her family to graduate from college.
Last summer she traveled to Estelí, Nicaragua with a group of twenty peers with Global Glimpse. Like many Global Glimpsers, this was Chanei’s first time out of the country without her family. When asked how her travel experience impacted her, she said:

“Traveling with Global Glimpse changed my outlook on life. I am more grateful and humble and confident. Sometimes you need to just take time to distance yourself, reflect and take everything in. It is one of the best life-altering, eye-opening experiences a person can have at my age. It gave me a much more global outlook and reminds me of the impact I want to have in the world.”

Upon her return, Chanei applied and was accepted to the Global Glimpse alumni leadership program. When asked why she wanted to continue to take a leadership role after her trip she said:

“I feel like this experience hit me extremely hard. I personally feel like I learned so much over the 20 days in Nicaragua and I wanted to continue with Global Glimpse to help the next upcoming ‘Glimpsers’ at my school to make sure that their experience would be as powerful as mine. Students from my school and neighborhood need to experience more of the world.”

Chanei not only stepped up to support Global Glimpse at her school, but has also taken a leadership role in her community and was recognized by the NYC Department of Education for her outstanding service and commitment to students in temporary housing for the creation of an annual toy drive. Chanei has also been part of Hip Hop 4 Life and Shades of Beauty, a young women’s mentoring program.
