After a late night journey from San Francisco we landed safely in Managua Friday morning. During our ice breaker sessions waiting for our flight, our glimpsers bonded and got to know each other better. It was a pretty smooth journey, despite troubles sleeping on the plane. Our In Country Coordinators Aaron and Oliver were anxiously waiting our arrival and had big smiles ready as we made it through customs. They immediately got us in the spirit, handing out Nicaraguan bracelets to our delegation. We stepped out into the heat and Roxanne, one of our glimpsers later mentioned that until she had that wave of humidity hit her, it was hard to understand how hot it really would be!

With our water bottles filled and bags loaded on the bus we headed to a delicious lunch at Comodore Marlene. The students enjoyed a variety of food from pollo asado, carne asada, pollo al horno, arroz, frijoles, and fried plantains. Stomachs full, we headed to El Mirador, a beautiful lookout point on the shores of Lake Managua with views of the magnificent Volcano Momotombo and its smaller version Momotombito.

Some students napped, while others reflected on the sights, sounds, and smells of our new home for the next 21 days. We arrived at Leon Imperial, our hostel, met the hostel staff and had our orientation.

In the evening we enjoyed a fabulous dinner, shared our first impressions and tucked in early for a good nights rest to be ready for Day 2; the history of Nicaragua and a city tour of Leon.

Abrazos,

Leon dos
