Turin, comforting a child in Arroyo…

Children of arroyo loro image During my experience as leader I experienced the trails of leading. I saw that I could not make everyone happy in order to be an effective leader. In order to lead one must put the priority over the group emotions. A leader does what is needed, not what is well liked or popular. Since we lead together we both experienced the poverty. We both experienced the most poverty we’ve ever seen in our lives. However, the strange part was, the Arroyo Loro community didn’t mind. Although it didn’t bother them it was what made our skin crawl the most. The smell and the poor conditions and/or violence didn’t make it repulsive, it was the fact that these people wake up every day thinking that this is the sufficient and most effective way of living. We also experienced the shock of children playing in the dirt, walking around nude, hunting and killing crabs with sticks for dinner. This was nothing like either of us have ever experienced. The 5 P’s of Poverty: Places, People, Politics, Past and Peace all were evident in the Arroyo Loro community. There is hope that one day, the people will try and make a difference within the political bureaucracy to create a better life for the people of Arroyo Loro. Until then it will be believed, in a country well governed, poverty will always be something to be ashamed of and in a country badly governed, wealth will be always be something they will be ashamed of.
