Hello! This is Consuelo Frayle and Deicy Rodriguez. Today was “Living like a Local”. We had planned to wake up to see the sunrise on top of the roof at 5:30 am. We woke up our friends and we went to the roof top and waited until 6:30 and we barley saw a little bit of the sun. We gave up and since at 6:30 and got ready. The wakeup call was at 6:30 and we had to be ready by 7:15 and come down to eat breakfast. What we had for breakfast was bread and hot chocolate. After we waited for Thomas because Christian was not able to take us to the community.
Before Thomas came we got split into groups so we would be with different families. They gave us a notecard with the names of everyone who lived in that house and their age. When Thomas came we did the head count to check of everyone was here and we got in the bus. It took about approx. 45 minutes to get to the community. Then the families introduced themselves and every group went with their assigned family.
In our travel journals we had some starter questions to ask them and we could ask other additional questions we wanted to ask. After the questions we asked with what chores we could help them with. When it was lunch time we ate arroz con avichuelas. All the families joined us for lunch and we shared what we talked about and what we learned from each other. We all got really attached to the families and some of us cried because we didn’t want to leave their humble community.
After visiting the communities we walked to their school which is 10 minutes away. We played with the kids there. We played volleyball, basketball, and soccer. It was really fun interacting with the kids in their community. They were so outgoing and fun to hang out with.
The clouds were grey and it started to sprinkle. Thomas came to pick us up at the school and we arrive back at our accommodation at 3:30 pm. We had a Socratic on what we learned for 2 hours. At 7:00 we had a really good dinner and we had our daily nightly meeting and had free time till our bed time, 10:00.
Thanks,
Consuelo and Deicy
Bug,
What a day you had, waking up so early and not getting to see the sun rise, but then spending what sounds like an emotional and enlightening day with a family. Hopefully you were able to leave the baby clothes with them?? I bet you were one of the people that cried when it was time to say goodbye.
You look happy in the photo and I love the shirt! Made me giggle (you know why)….
Be safe and i hope the bugs are not biting you! Until tomorrow, love and kisses. WUB WUB WUB WUB??

Getting up 5:30 in the morning is always a great way to start a topic about a journey. A little bit of pain always leaves a lot of memory at the end of the day…..
Great to see green, dirt, sweat, locals and local FOOD…….
Hi Luz!!
I hope you’re doing well with the heat?! We miss you so much! Use the bug spray!! I see you in the long sleeve so cute!
Much Love,
Jess
Hi Bailey,
What a great day for all of you to share with the locals. Sounds like it was all fun, and that they are so appreciative that you are there. Lots of smiles in your group photo, including you!
