On this misty morning, we worked like day laborers by helping out in a vegetable greenhouse. While getting involved, we learned about agricultural business between the DR and the US by touring a cucumber exporting company called Agro Marketing.
Today, with the help of our Spanish speaking students and the local workers, we gained a greater appreciation for the complicated process of cucumber harvesting, from cutting the cucumbers off the vine to inspecting it for inperfections. As they shared their opinions with us on the economic balance between the US and the DR relative to agricultural exports, we were able to see international commerce in a new light.
As the heat intensified our work ethic also increased. It was our second day of english tutoring, and after the first day, we felt a lot more confident and secure. We walked out of the english tutoring feeling accomplished about our lessons, our expansion of Spanish vocabulary, and our relationship with the students.Near the end of our tutoring session, special guests from some Global Glimpse partnerships stopped by our classrooms to observe the first-hand impact that we are providing the community. We were lucky enough to get to know them over dinner, and are excited to spend tomorrow with them as well! Overall, the Glimpsers saw produce from a totally new angle. We will never look at cucumbers the same way!
Wow! ? Looks like it was a great day for everyone.
Those cucumbers were large and looked good.
Ours never looked that good or big from our family gardens, that my dad planted every summer.
Keep the blogs coming. It’s great to hear about all the learning and experiences of the day.
Have a great day tomorrow ?✨
Love & kindness to all
