After a long day of flights, layovers, and bus rides – we are tired, but happy to report we have made it to the beautiful city of Estelí, Nicaragua.  As soon as we arrived in the country, we were greeted by our amazing Coordinators – Henrietta and Alex, along with Global Glimpse staff from other delegations.  Amongst foreign signs and a language we could not fully comprehend, it was comforting for us all to be welcomed by such warm and friendly staff.  We are certain they will become our Nicaraguan family in no time!

We were quickly whisked away to a delicious Nicaraguan lunch at a local restaurant.  After granola bars and airport food, it was quite the treat to have a hot meal of pollo asado, rice, and vegetables!

Shortly after, we arrived at our home away from home – Hostal Tomabu – where we had our nightly meeting and reflection.  It hasn’t quite sunk in for many of us yet, but before we head to sleep – we’ll leave you all with the same quote we left our students with: “Ones destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller.  As we begin this journey, it is important for us to remember that our goal wasn’t to travel 5,500+ km to simply get to Nicaragua, but to gain the courage to step out of our comfort zone, develop the commitment to be responsible to oneself and others, and to practice compassion despite our differences.
