Our third reality challenge came with a lot of complications. We were able to overcome all of these challenges and make it through the day with just one dollar. We started our day at 5 am and headed out to our favorite buffet (buffet Esteli ). We were only allowed to eat rice and beans (gallo pinto) to illustrate what life is like living on a dollar a day. After our nutritious breakfast we headed out to La Pita were we met our adoptive parents and got to help them with their everyday chores. Our chores ranged from washing dishes, sweeping the kitchen, making coffee, clearing the land, laundry by hand, and making all sorts of soups.
After witnessing the struggles a typical Nicaraguan family faces daily, we picked up our one hour late lunch and brought some back to our adoptive families. We were warmed to see how appreciative the families were and how our help was of great service to them. After our lunch we had our farewell ceremony and were able to thank all the families for letting us help them in their homes.
On the long ride back because it was a little rainy there was a small river on one of the uneven roads and our bus unfortunately got stuck on the the many rocks and dirt. Thankfully there was a bus behind us who was willing to help us out and we made it safely back to Esteli.
When we returned to our hostel (Las Americas) we relaxed for 5 minutes and quickly were back on our feet heading over to dinner at Buffet Esteli. We had gallo pinto while working on our self reflection and were lucky enough to make a quick stop at the bakery (Panaderia) on our way home. When we came back to the hostel we jumped right into our Nightly Meeting and passed the torch over to our next Leader of the Day: Raymar Valera. Overall living on a dollar a day has really changed our view in our lives.
“GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE SWEET DREAMS FROM THE FELLOW GLIMPSERS AND THE AMAZING LEADERS OF THE DAY!!!!!!!!!”
Thank you Ruby and Elan for sharing the $1 experience. I am sure this experience helped everyone see what is most important in life and how blessed we all are! I am also glad that you all were saved from being stuck in the mud. 🙂
Good night.
Theresa (Sarah’s mom)
