Hey everyone, it’s Imani here to tell you all about our majestic second Sunday FUNday! All the real fun today began with waking everyone up at 5:25 a.m. this sunny morning and a 5-star breakfast, which were ham and cheese sandwiches with mayonnaise and ketchup. (Sounds delicious right?) We left the hostel around 7:00 a.m. for a 2-hour bus ride to our tour at the Somoto Canyon. From there, we hiked for about 20-30 minutes down to the canyon. Because of the river running through the canyon, we walked and swam through the rocks/water in our shoes, clothes, and lifejackets. Along this tour, we were astonished by the gorgeous landscapes and natural waterfalls that were all around us. It was like being in a dream, while being awake and knowing, THIS IS REAL.
We also were able to jump off some of the large rocks and plunge into the water, which is one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had!! One of the jumps was estimated to be about 25 FEET ABOVE THE WATER, requiring some major encouragement. It was truly spectacular to see everyone come together to support one another through such an unforgettable journey. It was definitely an adventure that showed the courage deep within each of us! A waterproof camera to capture those perfect Kodak moments would have been great, but the experiences we shared and views we saw will be a great story to tell.
Our day ended with classic “American food”, pizza and soda, thanks to our lovely coordinators/leaders. I love seeing everyone socializing with one another and just enjoying the moment. With only a few days left, tomorrow we kick off the first day hard work for our CAP. Wish us luck! J
What a FUN day! 25 feet, that’s 24 feet higher than I am comfortable with. Only a few more days in Esteli, hope you will enjoy and appreciate every moment. I can’t wait till Friday, Katie.
