Today was a day that tested our communication skills and our true commitment to our Community Action Project which is beautifying a school/orphanage(Barrilete)and constructing a tire fence and cabinets. For it being our first day it was a great turn out. Everyone participated and gave their all whether it was cleaning the row of tires, going back to the market to get more supplies, or painting the kitchen which made me proud to be part of this delegation. Today’s productivity opened the door to initiating more projects that will also improve the learning environment for the children at Barrilete. The amazing part of this project, the whole trip actually, is that there is young and motivated future leaders that share similar passions of social justice and equity just as I do and it allows me to expand my mentality of what it means to be a leader and make change. Today I held the role of being Lider Del Dia and I loved it. I have always been a person that holds a leadership position and being able to have the opportunity to actually be a leader here made me feel bit more challenged because I needed to make sure I got the delegation on time to places, remember dietary restrictions, make sure everyone stayed hydrated, and of course also make sure everyone felt validated but it turned out perfectly fine and I am satisfied with how I did today and can not wait for future positions that make me feel challenged just as today. The Global Glimpse experience feels surreal.
