Hello and Welcome, I am Stephanie, the global glimpse leader for today! Thank you for stopping by to read how this magnificent day was spent here in Bonao! Today we had a total learning experience along with some time to rest since we had to get up pretty early. Our day started off by waking up at 4:30 in the morning to walk to the local market where locals sell and organize fruits and vegetables along with other products. When we arrived at 5:30 A.M., we got separated into groups and each group had to work with a different stand. For example, one group had to work in a “Polleria” where they had to kill chickens, pluck the feathers, and cook them. Whoah, such an unforgettable experience. Other groups, like mine, had to work in a fruit and vegetable stand, where we had to organize and sell the vegetables and fruits. It isn’t as easy as it sounds because we encountered a couple of maggots in the rotten vegetables. Yes, such an unforgettable moment for me. Also, selling the products was a little hectic because sometimes a lot of people would arrive at the same time and it would get really busy. We were working for about 5 hours and then walked back home to the hostel where we had a lovely almuerzo (lunch). After our delicious lunch we had 2 hours and 45 minutes to go out with a group of friends or stay at the hostel and rest. Probably the coolest part of the day was what followed, when we went to the painter Christian Tiburcios’ house. The interesting part of this experience was that his house is also a museum where people can visit, even though him and his family live there. Many of his art pieces are based around the human eye. To close off this lovely day we had a nice Cena (dinner) and went to bed early because we had such a tiring day. P.S. I love you and miss you mom and family!
