We are excited to start this new journey with you all to learn more about the Dominican Republic and specifically about Bonao; the land of waterfalls, coffee, and natural beauty!

First, we want to congratulate you on your acceptance to Global Glimpse Dominican Republic. We know you all worked very hard to be here and we are looking forward to sharing engaging and informative activities with you here in Bonao.

We are really looking forward to having you share your personal experiences with the group to help make this trip even more transformative for team Bonao. We have been working diligently on your summer itinerary and are very excited to give you a glimpse of a couple of the activities that you all will be experiencing!

One of our exciting activities planned is our Community Action Project (CAP). We will work with the Asociación Comunitaria Zona Verde in the town of Bejuco Aplastado located about 45 minutes away in a rural mountain area. Last year, they were our $1 a day partners and we were excited to partner up with them this year for a full community project. This organization is part of the Ferderación de Campesinos, an umbrella organization that promotes sustainable living in rural areas. The Federación supports initiatives such as hydroelectric plants, vocational training and access to higher education through bamboo furniture, agriculture, and livestock. We will be assessing the needs of Zona Verde along those themes in order to discover our CAP project. We are looking forward to working with Zona Verde to create a sustainable project and fulfill the needs of the community in order to grow our relationship between Global Glimpse and the community in Bonao. If you would like to take a look at what the Federacion de Campesinos does, please visit: https://sites.google.com/site/visitacoeturb/

The second activity we are excited to share with you is the events planned for our Culture Day. We will be visiting Piro Espinal’s workshop and Candido Bido’s Museum to learn about different aspects of Carnaval in the Dominican Republic. During this workshop and museum tour, we will better understand the history and different traditions involved in Carnaval and Dominican culture. After this, we will participate in Merengue and Bachata dance classes. This will give you a chance to have fun while learning all the local moves and steps. This video will give you a glimpse of what merengue music sounds like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOnlH5HLBHo

We look forward to meeting you soon to lead you on this once in a lifetime journey where you will develop stronger leadership skills and global exposure. We wish you safe travels and will see you soon!!

All our Best,

Marcos and Leslie
