Hola familia y amigos! We’ve made it safe and sound to our lovely home for the next 2 & 1/2 weeks. We arrived to the warm welcome of GG Program Coordinators, Skarleth and Alex, at the airport this morning in Managua. After a 2 hour bus ride through the verdant countryside of Nicaragua, we made it to Hostel el Rey.
Our first meal consisted of chicken, rice, veggies and a delicious papaya agua fresca! Everyone was thrilled with the delicious food! We then had an introductory seminar and were able to get to know each other a little better. We are all enjoying the beautiful atmosphere at the hostel with two parrots, a german shepard puppy and tropical plants everywhere! For dinner, we had our first meal with gallo pinto, the Nicaraguan staple of rice and beans, along with a shredded chicken taco and salad.
Although we are all tired from this long day of travel, everyone is looking forward to what this trip has to offer. Tomorrow we are going to explore and get to know Matagalpa and its history. All 23 students are getting to know each other and bonding more and more every time we see them. We can’t believe they all only met yesterday!
