Hi everyone in California, we are the first student leaders del dial! Today was the most exciting and fun-filled day so far. Today was Culture day and we did a whole lot of fun activities. We went and visited a city called San Ramon del Plomo, where we met a group of women who have been making jewelry for 10 years. We were able to purchase some of their beautiful pre-made jewelry and create one piece of our own. All the hard work of making our own jewelry made us hungry for some delicious traditional Nicaraguan food. We traveled to a restaurant where we made Nacatamales, which contained rice, corn dough, tomatoes, green peppers, spicy mole sauce, olives, peas, pineapples, and a chicken leg which were all wrapped in banana leaves. Eran tan deliciósos!
If all that wasn’t enough to fill the day, we also took an intense dance class for an hour and half. We became experts at styles such as salsa, merengue, and traditional Nicaraguan folkloric dance. Our dance teacher really put us to work, and every single one of us was drenched in sweat.
Learning about and experiencing the Nicaraguan culture firsthand was a really valuable experience for all of the Glimpsers, and all of the Glimpsers were really courageous today while trying so many new things.
Adios from Andrea and Abby!!!
