Hi everyone in California, we are the first student leaders del dial! Today was the most exciting and fun-filled day so far. Today was Culture day and we did a whole lot of fun activities. We went and visited a city called San Ramon del Plomo, where we met a group of women who have been making jewelry for 10 years. We were able to purchase some of their beautiful pre-made jewelry and create one piece of our own. All the hard work of making our own jewelry made us hungry for some delicious traditional Nicaraguan food. We traveled to a restaurant where we made Nacatamales, which contained rice, corn dough, tomatoes, green peppers, spicy mole sauce, olives, peas, pineapples, and a chicken leg which were all wrapped in banana leaves. Eran tan deliciósos!
If all that wasn’t enough to fill the day, we also took an intense dance class for an hour and half. We became experts at styles such as salsa, merengue, and traditional Nicaraguan folkloric dance. Our dance teacher really put us to work, and every single one of us was drenched in sweat.
Learning about and experiencing the Nicaraguan culture firsthand was a really valuable experience for all of the Glimpsers, and all of the Glimpsers were really courageous today while trying so many new things.
Adios from Andrea and Abby!!!
Hey Tiff!! I miss you so much :'( I hope you’re having a really good time over there!! FLITTT misses you too!! I bet you complained about the food and the cold water at least once LOL. I hope these two weeks go by fast!! I can’t wait to see you again! Have fun 🙂
Sounds like another great day. You are learning so much and if pictures are accurate, having fun too. What an awesome way to learn about the culture of the area. Keep up the great work!!
Xoxoxoxoxo Aaron. ??
What a great day and seems like a lot of fun. It is awesome you were able to learn more about the culture and make some jewelry.
Just so know the A’s lost today and the Giants beat the Diamond backs
Have fun and learn a los
I’m so glad you Glimpsers are able to experience Nicaraguan Culrure today! That’s so cool you guys were able to make your own ceramics! Techniques that haven’t change in the past couple centuries that had passed down from generations to generations. I hope you guys were able to appreciate true finished art that’s not made through machines. Also learning how to dance seems super fun! I hope you when you guys come back, you can bust those moves at your next school dance instead of yiking. That means you Lynna (winky face (; ). Anyways even though today was “culture day”, remember to look around when you guys take a walk again. See how different and similar Nicaraguans have with our culture. The people there will truly capture your heart. Goodnight!
Hi everyone in Matagalpa. What a wonderful day you seemed to have had. I am so happy for you to experience firsthand so many different aspects of the Nicaraguan culture. And so envious too. Continue to explore, learn, and have fun.
Mil besos
Hi weary travelers, Love the post and the pictures. Glad to see you are diving into the culture and having fun at the same time. Take care and stay safe.
Sending hugs your way
Loving the daily updates and pictures. You guys rock!
So many activities. I hope to taste the Nacatamales you (Abigail) learned to make when you return to San Francisco. Keep up the great work all.
