Question of the Day: In what ways do you want to live or work more like the people in San Juan de Llullundongo? And what does happiness mean to you?

Today, we had the opportunity to visit the community of San Juan and participate in making adobe blocks for the construction of a community kitchen. The group was so passionate and committed to the project that we created 128 blocks! While working alongside the locals, we found satisfaction and joy in hard work and collaboration. After a few hours, the students then joined the local kids in games and dances. We had a great time exchanging culture and shared many laughs. Meghan found joy in trading card magic tricks with a little girl who also had a few up her own sleeve. Carly and Carter actually found some mud up their own sleeves after working relentlessly on the adobe bricks while unfortunately Ky and Grace wished they had some tricks that magically created blocks. Overall, the Glimspers, GG leaders, and locals were all proud and thankful of the work that we accomplished together.

In the coming days, we will prepare for our community action project. We hope to impart a lasting impact on San Juan through our service. We all felt tremendous passion and energy in our group as we discussed the next steps leading up to the execution of our project. After meeting and playing with the children of San Juan, we feel that our service is more than just work; it is a message from the bottom of our hearts to the community and is an example of love, compassion, and collaboration to the world.

After a day packed with action and exercise, we would like to appreciate Brandon and Katrina for introducing the group to some great games to keep our spirits and energy high. Our Program Coordinators, Camilo and Stephanie, inspired everyone to work hard and help by translating not only in Spanish, but also in a native dialect called Kichwa. Yuvi and Maritza exemplified great kindness in making sure our lovely bus driver, Andrea, felt welcome during our lunch in San Juan. These are just a few of the many moments today that we are honored to be a part of on this trip.

We believe that we speak on behalf of all the Glimpsers when we say that today, we redefined what happiness means to us. We are eternally grateful for the opportunity to be welcomed into the hearts and lives of the locals of Ecuador.
