Today, was an eye opening experience. As a whole, we were given a wonderful opportunity to see what it is like to live on a dollar a day. We woke up early in the morning at 5 o’clock, ate gallo pinto (plain beans and rice), and went on a long bus ride to La Pita. After a four hour detour, we finally made it there safe and sound and were able to meet our families for the day. Some of us helped the farmers build roads for cows by hand, chopped up wood, watered plants, and completed household chores. We also ate with the families and provided lunches. Despite the language barriers that most of us had, the families were still welcoming to us with open ams. At the end of the day, we rested on hammocks and enjoyed the view. Today’s experience taught us how to appreciate what we have and motivate us to become better individuals.
