“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.” ~Nelson Mandela

Aid & Development day started up with a wake up call followed by a Nicaraguan breakfast. An energizer  followed and then we were introduced to our Aid & Development seminar which developed our ideas about the reasons US aid is given to various countries. Next, we visited La Amistad, school located in Matagalpa, Nicaragua which specializes in kids with different disabilities. The whole Global Glimpse delegation went to see the school and get informed by the principal about La Amistad school. We were informed not only do they teach kids with disabilities a typical classroom curriculum but they learn many skills that can be used in life that further help them to get jobs. Many of the workshops include baking, beauty, sewing, handcrafting. Many of these alumni start from the age of 0-16 and have disabilities like being deaf ,autistic and etc. Many people gave sympathy to these kids and decided to created his school including get governmental funds. The policies of the government are to give supplies, bus transportation and shoes. Many of these students are treated with compassion by its teachers.  We got a chance to do a piñata activity which excited the kids and further got to meet the teachers and students. Knowing sign language has helped me communicate with the deaf students and was a beautiful experience to understand them. La Amistad is the school we are partnering up with to do our Community Action Project. We will be helping to make any projects that will then benefit the school and make an impact to the community.
