Today was an exciting day for all of us. It started off cold, which was really surprising since all of us are used to it being hot 24 hours a day. For breakfast we had scrambled eggs, toast and rice.

Our first main event was  going to FUMDEC, FUndacion Mujer y Desarrollo Empresarial Conunitario and in English Foundation for Women and Community Entrepreneurship Development. Where we listened to a presentation that taught us that FUMDEC works to empower women by helping them become independent entrepreneurs. Through numerous workshops, they helped women create their business plan and provided a micro loan to start them off.

After FUMDEC, we took the bus with our favorite bus driver, Federico, to Matasano, a rural community, to meet Aracely, a woman who worked with FUMDEC, to start her own business. With their help, she became a dairy farmer and made a local cheese that she sells to her community, Matagalpa and surrounding areas. We also had lunch here, provided by Aracely’s family which was good, consisting of roasted chicken, her home made cheese, rice and beans and tons of vegetables. Part of the fun was getting to and from Matasano because of all the amazing views and terrain Federico had to deal with it.

When we returned from Matasano, we rested for a bit and then headed to the school where we teach our English classes. After that, we came back to the hostel and rested for a bit and had our nightly meeting and passed the torch to the next El Lider Del Dia.
