Hi from Jarabacoa!

This is Tess, Nico, and Yadid as Leaders of the Day!

Today we woke up at 7 AM and got ready for breakfast at 8 AM. We had fruit loops (yum) and eggs, sausage, toast, and fresh fruit. After breakfast, we got ready for CAP our Community Action Project.  At around 8:55 we set off to the family’s house we were going to work at.  When we got there we got to work moving sand, mixing up cement mixture, loading the mixture into buckets, and forming an assembly line to carry the buckets down a hill. With the cement, a couple of men from the community worked with the cement-filled buckets that we passed along, pouring them out and smoothing the cement. We also got a chance to hang out with the kids in our free time between buckets.  They got to play with Ana’s camera and take pictures of everyone working! Naldo came in clutch with the speaker to play some music while we worked so everyone danced around with the kids and sang along!

After our first CAP session of the day we came back to home base and ate some delicious lunch (rice, beef, eggplant, salad) then shortly after we headed back to the CAP site to continue working in the hot sun. Today we finished the cement floor of the house and a walkway leading to it! Everybody is super proud of the work that went into the project and the teamwork everyone showed. Our time at the house was cut short due to a rain storm; we got poured on waiting for our safari bus to come back and pick us up!  On the way home, the wind and rain kept coming down hard. Naldo played more music though, so we all found the fun in it and sang together. When we got back everyone took turns showering before our seminar on appreciation letters to Global Glimpse supporters.  After we finished writing our letters we had free time, followed by Dinner! (soup, rice, salad, mangu). We had a great day today and are excited to work on some more houses tomorrow! To end the night we had some free time and watched some crazy talents from our new leaders of the day who hurdled some plastic chairs (eating some grass in the process).

Goodnight from Jarabacoa! -Tess, Yadid, Nico
