Hello everyone! Welcome to another hard working day of community service, where many obstacles were faced but were seen as a fun challenge to overcome.

Today, we woke up at 6:30 am to a “fun” surprise. After the power outage from last night, we were left with the water being turned off because of the rivers being overrun by the rain. It was hard because we couldn’t shower but we worked around it. Our breakfast for today consisted of pancakes, fried eggs, cereal, yogurt with granola, fruit, and juice (berry and orange). We then had our mental warm-up with the first question being “What were your thoughts about last night?” We had many interesting answers. After, we got ready to head out to the school but had to wait for confirmation if we could go to the school because of the water situation. We were all hoping to still continue the work for the school and were able to head out at 8:30 am.

We got to the school and started off by sanding all of the chairs and a big soccer goal. It was really hard work, and we were all tired from waking up early. Another group was delegated toward the completion of the second site for compost. There was a challenge with having to sand a really big object but we were able to get multiple paint scrapers to work on the job more efficiently. At around 12, we had lunch which was pork, rice, and red beans. At 1 pm, we started back up by working on the compost site, more sanding, and starting on the foundation for the floor of the cafeteria. We all worked together to finish the compost site, then began to make concrete. We shoveled dirt to make the concrete while a smaller group collected rocks. At around 2:45 pm, it started to pour rain while mixing the concrete. It put a short delay in plans but was able to get the concrete laid down. Fortunately, there were many Glimpsers who offered to finish the concrete in the pouring rain.

After finishing at the school for the day, we headed back to the base house to shower and calm down from the rush of getting things done. Everyone was really tired but was able to relax and play games during downtime. We then had dinner at 6:30 pm, which was chickpea and pork soup, rice, and a salad. Lastly, we had our nightly meeting and passed the torch to tomorrow’s leaders of the day.

One of the many highlights of the day was the connection we saw between the students and Glimpsers. There were a lot of interactions, such as signing papers, arms, and clothing, along with exchanging names and interests with the community. There were also many times throughout the day when the group had to collaborate more because of the rain and the no-water situation.

Overall, there were many obstacles that we all had to face. Especially for us as leaders of the day, we had to make sure that everyone was present. Everyone had to collaborate in the rain to get the concrete laid and finished. As leaders of the day, our job was to oversee each group’s tasks and how well they were working together. We were proud that the Glimpers were able to put energy into today’s work like yesterday. We are proud to be leaders that get to experience and watch everyone communicate with the community while also taking initiative in their work.

We want to recognize our PCs for helping us lead today with the fact that our GGLs were out. It was a hard job but we know that there are many things that future LDDs could use for new days to come.

Thank you Mom and Dad for letting me take this opportunity. I really miss you and I will see you in 4 days. Love you!
