Hey everyone today Me and Alexis were ELDD. Today was the last day of our CAP (Community Action Project), and we woke up at 6:30 this morning to get ready for breakfast at the hostel before leaving for Sor Maria. Once we arrived, we got right to work on painting the mural and mixing the concrete.
Although, concrete team was not able to finish, due to lack of material, they pushed through and did the best that they could. We have full faith that the next Matagalpa delegation will finish the job well, so the kids will have a nice dry place to stand when it rains. As for the mural team, we worked together the best we could to finish up. We were all worried about time and whether or not we were going to be able to finish, but we pushed through and worked together. We feel like a big part of the mural also goes to the help from the kids of the community. It was amazing to see how happy and ready they were to help us finish this mural. They got there right when we arrived and were so eager to help us paint. If it wasn’t for them we would have been a little behind schedule. Towards the end of the mural, one of the big things we wanted to do for the kids was let them put their hand prints as the borders. It was definitely amazing to see how happy this made them and how much fun they had. We wanted the kids to be able to have something in the community, that they could pass by everyday and smile at from knowing that they had a part in the beautiful mural. Everyone worked really hard for 3 to 4 hours all the way until it was time for lunch, which was chicken sandwiches. We brought lunches for all the kids and got to have lunch with them too.
One of the most difficult parts of the day was finishing up, and having to leave the kids was hard. They had been there to help from CAP Day 1 and to see the smiles on their faces fade when we were leaving was heartbreaking for us. Even before leaving the kids helped us scrub paint off our hands, which was a difficult task to accomplish considering we still have paint on our hands lol. When leaving they all gave have us hugs and said their goodbyes. Some of the kids even followed our bus and waved goodbye to us as we left. We are all happy to know that they will have this wonderful mural and concrete pathway to remember us by.
When arriving home at around 1:30, had a final meeting about the project and then all rushed to our rooms to get ready to explore more of Matagalpa. I think we all hurried to the cyber cafés to wish our wonderful dads a Happy Father’s day and be able to communicate with loved ones and friends. When we all got back from free time, we had dinner, had the nightly meeting and sat to watch the Finals. Although the Warriors lost we are still a great team and we are proud they made it this far. Winners in our hearts 😊. Hope everyone had a Great Sunday and Father’s day! See you all soon! Hey momma bear !! 😊
What a bittersweet moment to have with the kids in the community :’) They will always have the mural to remember their time with you. A very successful CAP indeed!
Happy Father’s Day everyone! All the fathers and father-figures are extremely proud of you all <3
WOW. The mural looks absolutely beautiful!! I’ll have to ask what the words mean what you get back 🙂
Much sadness for the Warriors’ loss :'(
What beautiful work!!!! You should all be so incredibly proud!!!
Ryan, we miss you so much and are starting to count the hours now until you are home! We can’t wait to hear all about your adventures there and can’t wait to see you!!!
Love you so much!

M1A, what a wonderful job you did on the mural! It looks amazing and the handprints of the kids as a finishing touch was such a great idea. And I’m sure every bit of the concrete pathway is most helpful to the community. We don’t realize how helpful our roads and walkways are until we’ve gone to parts of the world where there are none and just become muddy messes after a little rainfall. I know this entire experience will have an impact on how you all look at life and how you see the world…with more grace and with more compassion. So glad you got to experience it altogether with this great group of young people.
Bethany I was so happy we (finally!) got to talk and Daddy and Lindsey miss you too. But I know you’ll be home soon, so in these next few days left, continue to learn, grow, and enjoy all that Nicaragua has for you.
Love you!
Mom
Hey there Glimpsers, it’s your boy Charlie. Nice blog Christina and Marla! Sorry I didn’t comment on your guy’s blog. I was crying from the Warriors lost and crying I had an 8 hour shift at Jamba. Was exhausted when I got home so I didn’t read the blogs LOL. Anyways nice work and proud of you guys on your day 2 progress! I really liked the blog, especially the title… Work work work….. But hey! You guys got a good laugh at me, feel proud of that. But on to you Alexis! The part when you mentioned some of the kids followers no your bus when you guys left made me cry my eyes out. I had a kid who did that to us last year and all the memories global
Glimpse had given me. To all you Glimpsers, I hope the experience has hit you guys already. If it didn’t it’s cool, since you’ll feel it in the states. I lied to my Andrew hill kids when I always mentioned global glimpse hitting me right in the feels. It never fully hit me until today. I always had a high expectation of global glimpse, and it matched my expectation. However, I always thought of life outside of the u.s everyday. So the experience of global glimpse never really got to me. I’ve been to Vietnam before and cried my eyes out when I see people suffering. I did that too on garbage day at jinotega. What really hits me the most right now, is remembering all the connection I left behind over there. The people, the culture, the atmosphere, my GG leaders. Even though I can bring those memories with me, I can’t bring them with me. So do me a favor Glimpsers. Your trip is almost over. Don’t leave any regrets. Visit the rest of the city, give hugs to every people you meet, I don’t know, JUST PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GET EVERY OUNCE OF THIS EXPERIENCE IN YOU. You can’t change back time and go back on this trip most likely. I know I wish I can turn back time, to the good old days. But I can’t. Goodnight guys, sorry for this long blog. Too emotional right now. Yours truly.
These pictures are absolutely beautiful! You guys should be so proud of what you have brought to this community. Kieran, I read this post three times – once to myself, once to your dad, and once to Nikhil. Each time when I read the part about you guys saying goodbye to the kids I got choked up. That must have been so hard to say goodbye. Everyone, your sentiments about giving them something to smile about and feel joy in in their community when they walked by the mural is so wonderful and shows the kinds of hearts you kids have. That is beauty and love and goodness. Hope the rest of your trip is filled with happiness. Wishing you all the very best. – Love you and miss you Kieran!!!! Was so so so great to connect with you yesterday – made my whole week xo, Mom
Wow, the mural looks amazing with beautiful colors and what a great touch to have the kids participate with their handprints. The kids learned as much from all of you as you did from them. Watching how much you cared and how hard you all worked. You’ve made a difference in their lives that they will always remember and carry on the torch when they get older. Great job everyone!!!
We’re counting the days till you get home, I love you MS. BIEBER!!!
