Hello again from Nicaragua to America! This is what our day consisted of.
The day began with the group waking up at 7 in the morning. We then made our way to our local comedor, Imabite, where we had a filling breakfast of plantains, beans, and sausage. After breakfast, we walked back to the hostel and played a new energizer called ‘Jump In’ and got ready for the rest of the day.
With sunscreen applied and water bottles filled, we took a bus to Barriletes where we would spend a majority of our day. Once again, we were met with open arms, literally. As we got off the bus, we were immediately greeted with warm hugs from the most adorable kids you could think of. This special exchange between the kids and our group stood as a reminder for the reason we were doing our project and it set the positive vibe for the day.
Then each committee took on their roles. The group responsible for repairing the hole continued to mix huge bags of cement, the drinking fountain crew continued to build the fountain, and the mural squad continued to pursue their designs. Despite the different jobs we took on, we all strove to make the vision we had for Barriletes into a reality.
It took three whole days, but after all our hard work, we finally completed our CAP. At the back of the house, the drinking fountain crew successfully built a new water fountain for the kids to use. Inside of the building, half of the mural squad accomplished painting the vowels on a wall complete with the pictures of a baby armadillo and a mama armadillo, an elephant, an iguana, an oso (bear), and an urraca (magpie). The rest of the mural crew were able to successfully restore, retouch, and add on to the mural on the side of the house. In the end, they were able to repaint the entire world (on the mural) and add special Global Glimpse touches which included our handprints. And finally, the group who had to repair and fill the hole in the yard successfully did so. We not only accomplished what we set out to do but we were also able to paint a four square and two hopscotch ports for the kids to play with.
After a day of hard work, a few of the kids from Barriletes performed various cultural dances and acrobatics for us. Some of us even became a part of the performance! Finally, once the performances ended, we brought out a piñata for the kids and together we all celebrated the success of our CAP. Everyone had an amazing time. (Editors Note: pics from this are at the end.)
Now, it’s almost time for bed and we are all crowded around the room of our “trip mom”, Nikki , and it’s finally hitting us that we are nearing the end of our amazing trip. Although this amazing trip in coming to an end we will leave knowing that we commitment ourselves to a purpose bigger than us.
Anyway, goodnight everyone.
P.S. We had the best dinner ever. We had burgers, fries, and iced tea. 🙂

Great job glimpsers!
Where are the finished pictures? We have been following the progress of your projects so closely, I feel as if I also participated in them!
It is wonderfully amazing what a group of motivated people can accomplish. Nathaniel you are missed but we are so happy you are having this fantastic experience. Can’t wait to hear and see everything!!!
What an accomplishment you all had, investing time and energy with selfless dedication, making things better than you found it. You Global Glimpsers are true ambassadors of goodwill and friendship not just to the community you served but most importantly, the humanity and personal interaction you all had with the children and citizens of Leon. We couldn’t be more proud of you, Babycakes.
All that hesitation and anxiety of confronting the unknown and unfamiliar turned out to be one of your most fulfilling journeys. One that will last long after you’re gone and will become part of you as a person. We’re excited to see you back coming to SFO to get you. Make sure to not eat too much of that inflight comida. Well have a freshly made In-N-Out double double with an equally fresh Mocha Frappe from Starbucks ???. Love you,
Mom
