Cap Execution Day!

Hola! This is Jack and Makenna here ready to inform you about today’s happenings! To start the day off we had a great breakfast of omelet and some toast, which was a great way to kick start our work filled day. After breakfast we headed out to Fundacion Cristal where we had the whole day to continue our projects that we started the day before. We were able to make an extraordinary amount of progress; digging out all the holes where the plants were going to be planted by the cute little children tomorrow as well as finishing painting the 200+ signs that were going to be placed in front of the plants. The weather was fairly nice to us, providing a comforting sprinkle for those that were outside doing laborious work as well as a nice breeze for those that were working inside the school on the center garden. Throughout our 7 hours at the school we were able to accomplish a ton more than was expected of us since it was only our second day there. After our CAP project we headed back to the hostel where we celebrated one of our beloved Global Glimpse Leader’s birthday with lots of dancing, cake, and candy.

Today was a great day for us to exemplify the three C’s since we were all working hard and having fun at the same time. Those that worked on the outside garden had to have an exceptional amount of courage, lifting rocks off of ant hills as well as finding scorpions in the flower bags. For those that worked on the plant signs demonstrated their complete commitment to this project through their tedious work of sanding, painting, drying, and repeating all day long. Those that worked in the center garden showed every drop of compassion that they had through the delicate handiwork on the flowers that would definitely bring a smile to the children and parents of the community.

One thing that definitely stood out to us was the issue of proper communication that the group had with each other, whether it be within the group or with the other volunteers that were present today. Although we started the day a little rough with lack of understanding each other’s intentions, we were able to put all that aside after lunch and progress towards the success that we ended the day with. We both were extremely proud of the way the group was able to be so flexible with the change in plans of the assigned roles, because of this we managed to develop better as a family and complete more than expected of us today!

Today was a blessing and a curse for us as LDDs since three of the four adult leaders could not be present throughout the day due to a various reasons (but don’t worry, we were completely safe and there was a ton of adult supervision!). This opportunity forced us to really step up our game and leave our comfort zones to lead 17 rowdy teenagers throughout one of the most important days of the trip. We made sure that everyone was drinking plenty of water throughout the day as to not get dehydrated as well as using proper necessities to protect ourselves from the sun, insects. We also made sure that everyone had an opportunity to contribute to the different aspects of the CAP project since we had multiple mini projects that required different skills.

Something that we both learned today as LDDs was that communication is essential for a team to be “a well-oiled machine” that is able to go further than any other.

Tomorrow is CAP Execution Day 3 and the LDD is Resha. We know she will kill it tomorrow, and we’re both super excited to finish up our project.

See you guys soon!

Makenna and Jack

PS – Most importantly on behalf of the whole delegation we would like to wish all the dads out there a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY…attached are some words from your dear children.

Howdy Jin-Sheng Wang,

Thanks for being the number day out there with all those random moments when you would barge in to my room to ask if I saw the latest sport update of your beloved Michigan State Spartans, even though you always know that my answer to that question is a simple shrug or a annoyed grunt thanks for the little things such as that.

Best of wishes from Nicaragua,

Jack

P.S. Send me to Asia next summer 😀 LOL
