Hola (Hello in espanol),

Today we completed steps 2 and 3 of our community action project. We installed the pipes and covered the trenches. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, (check out BTS song Blood, Sweat, and Tears!) we saw the first stream of water which will provide clean running water to the community of Los Hatillos de las Cenizas for generations to the  come. After, we gave our big love and then went to a waterfall (Salto Baiguate) where it rained. Like a lot, lot… Then, we got ice cream. 10/10 ice cream review. We later went back to the hostel, self reflected, and had dinner (9/10 dinner review (vinegary broccoli). We ended the night with the routine nightly meeting, where tears were shed and laughs were had.

Yesterday, many were discouraged because we’d been told that we might not be able to see the project to completion. That was wrong. WE DID! We defied John’s expectations and passed the test, with the power of friendship. We were able, with lots of help from the local community, to dig, put the pipes in, and cover them in just the span of three days. We showed gratitude by introducing them

to BTS. One of the most inspiring people today was our bestie Francis, who bought everyone two scoops of ice cream today. The locals were also very inspiring because of their hard work and hospitality towards us.

As leaders, we are sad because the trip is coming to an end, but we are optimistic because of all the great experiences and people we’ve met. In general, we as global glimpsers learned that manual labor is very difficult. Being the best leaders of the day so far (no debate), we found it challenging but also rewarding to lead. We were able to be dictators for the day. We made sure to sunscreen, hand sanitize, and hydrate everyone up ( and made sure John ate). And through this process, we learned that we are quite a detail-oriented pair. At the end of the day, we received good feedback, like how we had good energy, but also how to organize our leadership strategies better.

Weather report: 6:00am Coolish. 7:00am Hot. 9:00am Hot with  slight south eastern breeze. 12:00pm Hot. 3:00pm Random downpour of rain (soaked the waterfall). 5:00pm Hot. 7:00 More rain. 8:00pm – 10:00 pm  Moist. Slight drizzle.

See you in a few days.

Bye (adios in Spanish),
