Greetings and Salutations!

Today, the Global Glimpsers and staff enjoyed a beautiful day in Cacha, Chimborazo with Puruha people where we learned about their history of getting colonized by the Inca and the Spanish, the abuse they suffered at the hands of both colonizers, the disconnect from their culture and traditions, and the uprisings that led to their ultimate independence! After learning about the Puruha peoples’ history, we got to be a part of a cleansing ceremony which was so eye-opening to the different ways of healing and worshipping of indigenous people. We also got a tour of their community, met their animals (2 llamas & 1 alpaca + guinea pigs!) and got to try their delicious foods!

After leaving Chimborazo, we came back to our hotel we got the amazing opportunity to be taught a few traditional Ecuadorian dances while wearing traditional dance clothing (picture above)! It was a beautiful experience and everyone had a fun time! We wrapped up our evening with a delicious buffalo chicken wing with potato and rice dinner at Nativa before coming back together at the hotel and having a nightly meeting, where we reflected on our day and thought of ways to take our new knowledge and apply it to our regular lives and communities.

Until next time,

Alex <3
