Hello, your GGL Emily reporting live again after another incredible day spent in Leon, Nicaragua. Today, we focused on the culture of Leon, which lead our students on some pretty interesting adventures…
We began our day with a field trip to the Xuchialt Foundation, a non-profit that teaches art, dance, and English to community members of Leon.
We were given a presentation (including live Nicaraguan music) about a traditional form of art known as sawdust carpets.
Glimpsers were then challenged to create their own!
Our second field trip of the day lead us on the bus to El Solar, a group of community activists that teach dance, exercise, and circus performances to the community. Our Glimpsers learned to salsa and to walk on stilts (and some even succeeded in salsa-ing on stilts!). I am proud to say EVERY single Glimpser challenged themselves by participating in the stilts activity.
It was a day full of learning, that required the Glimpsers to really get out of their comfort zone. I think everyone walked away with a new understanding of trust for one another, and a greater respect for the colorful culture we are currently experiencing. What a unique and incredible experience for all.
Hello, to the global glimpses. I am so proud of you all. It was fabulous to see the pictures. The sand art looked very fun to me. Molly, your Vinny and Ruby are missing you they’ve been sleeping in your bed every night. Love seeing your adventures and experiencing a new culture. We love you the mostest mom and dad
Nice blog Emily. Cool to see everyone collectively getting to experience something they have never tried before. Make sure everyone adds salsa dancing on stilts to their resumes. Nice pics too!
Looks like you all are having so much fun! We miss you Rainna! Hope you bring those salsa steps back home. Love you!
